Watch the trailer

Plot
Mob hit man Frank Sheeran recalls his time with the Buffalino family and possible involvement with the death of Jimmy Hoffa.

Verdict
This is a long movie, but it's never boring. This isn't just a story about Hoffa and Sheeran, it's also a story about mob life. The movie got better with every minute as all the pieces began to fit together. The length allows the movie to craft an intricate story. De Niro's performance is disappointing though blue contact lenses and CGI de-aging don't help. It's not a bad performance, just very stoic which may be the goal, but it's notable when all of the other performances stand out.
Watch it.

Review
Don't let the length deter you, this is a very good movie. It's too short to be a mini-series and is more suited to be presented as a movie anyway. No one complains about a ten hour television series.

This is a slow burn movie that I thought certainly could have been trimmed shorter as I was watching, but by the end I wouldn't change a thing. We're introduced to a lot of pieces and they all have a place. Frank Sheeran in a nursing home frames a car ride which frames Sheeran's life story. It's a bit strange with two framing devices, but has a purpose. This is never boring, slower moments still provide a lot of interest and are vital to the plot. They are slower in that this isn't wall to wall action, but with most of these performances that isn't necessary. One of the more impressive things is that the movie just keeps getting better with every minute.
Robert De Niro plays Frank Sheeran.
The story follows Frank Sheeran from delivery driver to mob fixer to head of his local union to jail and his release. Frank rises through the ranks because he does what he's told without question. That aspect of his loyalty is key later in the movie as you wonder if orders will test that loyalty. The movie doesn't delve into Frank's feelings or conflict, it's left up to the viewer.
Joe Pesci plays Russell Buffalino.
Al Pacino plays Jimmy Hoffa.
Frank becomes favored by Russell Buffalino played by Joe Pesci. Pesci does a great job playing against type. In gangster movies he's loud and brash, in this he's quiet and reserved, imparting of lot of strength to the character. Through Russell, Frank becomes friends with Jimmy Hoffa played by Al Pacino. Pacino is great as Hoffa. I had heard of Hoffa, but never knew just how much power he wielded, according to the movie Hoffa controlled millions in pension funds as the head of the Teamsters' Union. Hoffa is linked to the mob through loans and other ventures. After a jail sentence for jury tampering he's desperate to regain his power, something that worries the mob bosses as they don't know how far Hoffa will go.
Frank is the middleman to a lot of powerful people, tasked with calming Hoffa. Frank is good friends with Russell and Jimmy, but the mob has a hierarchy.
Young Frank.
Old Frank.
De Niro isn't very expressive in the movie. His character felt blank, which may be by design, Frank is a killer after all. The CGI de-aging was really good even if it robbed his face of emotion, but the most distracting thing was De Niro's eyes. Half way into the movie I googled "De Niro eye color." In the movie his eyes are blue, but they look strange. De Niro's eyes are brown, the blue eyes in the movie are contacts. Throughout the movie his eyes look dead. It's distracting.

While this isn't my favorite Scorsese movie, it's very good and one of Netflix's best. Scorsese gets an indulgence in length, something many directors wouldn't get and the CGI de-aging was rather expensive though it is part of the draw.
I love the ending. As big as Hoffa was, no one really knows him near thirty years later. Frank's nurse doesn't know Hoffa at all. As important as Frank and the people he knew were, now they're all gone and no one knows them. Frank is just a nobody in a nursing home. Frank did manage to outlast them all which is an achievement, and I suspect the reason why the movie made a point to note how and when so many of the mobsters featured were killed.
While everyone who Frank knew is gone, he's still estranged from his daughter. If he had shown his family the save devotion, maybe things could have been different.
I really like the ending. Time keeps moving, rendering almost everything unimportant.

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie Review

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)
Watch El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie on Netflix
Written by: Vince Gilligan, Vince Gilligan (based on "Breaking Bad" by)
Directed by: Vince Gilligan
Starring: Aaron Paul, Jonathan Banks, Matt Jones
Rated: TV-MA
Watch the trailer & more information

Plot
Following the Breaking Bad series finale, Jesse Pinkman is now on the run as a massive police manhunt searches for him.

Verdict
If you've seen Breaking Bad, you'll enjoy this movie. Even if you haven't seen the series, you'll still like this, but you will miss a lot of backstory and meaning. There's no reason to watch this if you haven't seen the series. This is a movie that shouldn't work, much like Better Call Saul is a series that shouldn't have worked. Both do. Gilligan has crafted a great story that's not trying to imitate it's predecessor. It's something new and it's just as well made as the aforementioned series. I was riveted from start to finish. Still, it's a movie made for a specific audience, but in no way is it a waste of time.
It depends.

Review
When it was announced, this movie seemed like a bad idea. I thought the same thing with the spin-off series Better Call Saul. What Gilligan did differently with that series is that he didn't try to imitate Breaking Bad. Because of that it's a great, though very different, series. El Camino is in a similar situation. It seems like a bad idea, but it's a very enjoyable movie, though a lot of that enjoyment is that it feels like a love letter to fans.

I've been wanting to re-watch Breaking Bad for a while, but I always find new shows to watch. This movie pushed me over the edge. It was a lot of fun to see the characters again. Going back to the first season of the series, Jesse looks so much younger.
Aaron Paul plays Jesse Pinkman.
The movie picks up exactly at the end of the series, using the final scene of Jesse speeding away from his imprisonment in an El Camino. He's free of his captors, due to Walt, but he's not free of the cops trying to track him down.

At the beginning of the series, Jesse was a brash braggart. His crimes and misdeeds took a toll. He was broken before he was imprisoned as a meth cook, but after roughly six months of captivity he can only be worse. How will he survive?

The movie coerced me to watch the series again. There's many call backs to the show like "magnets" when Jesse tries to dispose of his escape vehicle. This movie is a love letter with many references. It's not quite a love letter in that all of the references are justified. The movie doesn't trot out familiar faces just to make fans happy. Without the series you don't know what you're watching. While it doesn't impede the movie, it would be a loss.

Moments from past to present blend so smoothly I didn't realize we had changed time periods at first. The switch is disorienting, but that has to be close to Jesse's perspective after his ordeals.
The movie switches back and forth and those moments in the past are now aiding him in his escape.
The juxtaposition of past and present both present Jesse in an untenable situation. He's trapped either way, and escape seems impossible. Before he was literally chained in a cage. Now the cage is gone, but he's still not free.

As I watched this I imagined what I'd think if I hadn't watched the series. It's still well made with more than a couple really great scenes. It just loses a lot of detail. The series allows the movie to use a bit of shorthand to impart impact and emotion.
Part of Gilligan's success with expanding the franchise is that he doesn't try to repeat the success. Each expansion is something unique.

The movie does finally answer the question of what happened to Jesse. Prior to this movie I would have said the answer is unnecessary, but I really enjoyed this. Gilligan crafted something impressive.

CHHICHHORE Movie REVIEW

Chhichhore , Chhichhore Review , Chhichhore movie review, Shraddha Kapoor , Sushant Singh rajput , Bollywood Buff

"CHHICHHORE" RATING

Overall Rating -  ★★★1/2 (3.5/5)

( We know you love Mathematics . But this is not the right place to show off your skills . )

  1. PERFORMANCES - ★★★★
  2. DIRECTION - ★★★★1/2
  3. MUSIC - 1/2
  4. DIALOGUES - ★★★★
  5. STORY - ★★
  6. SCREENPLAY - ★★★1/2

PERFORMANCES

  • Sushant Singh Rajput is fantabulous throughout the film. His comic timing is phenomenal . And we know how well he manages the emotional scenes , Kedarnath being a perfect example . And here he is even better . Unstoppable !! CHHICHHORE will definitely take Sushant's career to the next level . And with CHHICHHORE coming just after SONCHIRIYA , it proves how versatile , an actor Sushant is.

Chhichhore , Chhichhore Review , Chhichhore movie review, Shraddha Kapoor , Sushant Singh rajput , Bollywood Buff

  • It's been a total party for me as a fan ,  to enjoy 2 SHRADDHA's film back to back. And she has really raised her bar so high . Good Acting + Such Gorgeousness = Lethal Combo. Shraddha impressed the most during emotional scenes in the 2nd half. She handled it so well .
  • VARUN SHARMA comes out , literally , as a BOMB , the best performer for me out of these CHHICHHORA's . His character is so convincing , that it literally seemed like He is actually SEXA in real life ( No offense ). He has the best of those hillarious one liners . And he does full Justice . And most importantly , from now on he is SEXA for me & no more a CHOOCHA .

Direction

  • Nitesh Tiwari's Direction is top class. To handle , so much different kinds of emotions again ( after Dangal ) must have been a tough task. And huge respect for providing a beautiful message in such an entertaining manner , which has been blended so well with the story . Just a little unhappy , with the editing of the movie.

OTHER TECHNICAL ASPECTS

  • Story , screenplay and specially Dialogues deserve special mention. Outstanding . right according to the needs of the script. When the story , wants to make you laugh , the dialogues make you laugh to the point of holding your stomach.  And when they make you emotional , they make sure it touches your heart .

MUSIC

Chhichhore , Chhichhore Review , Chhichhore movie review, Shraddha Kapoor , Sushant Singh rajput , Bollywood Buff

  • Music , unfortunately disappoints .
  • Obviously , every aspect can't go correct everytime .
  • More so , because Music is again blended with the movie and supports the screenplay. In such cases , it's always difficult to get the music soothing to the ears.
  • But when PRITAM is handling the music department , we as a audience , don't accept any reason. Very DISAPPOINTED !!!

My Opinion

Chhichhore , Chhichhore Review , Chhichhore movie review, Shraddha Kapoor , Sushant Singh rajput , Bollywood Buff

  • So , on a final note , CHHICHHORE is a brilliant family entertainer which has all elements of a typical Bollywood style entertainer .
  • No comparison to 3 IDIOTS please.
  • A movie for all generations , some of them would feel nostalgic , while some of them will cherish their present college life even more while some will eagerly wait for their college life to begin

Sextuplets Netflix Movie Review

Sextuplets (2019)
Watch Sextuplets on Netflix
Written by: Mike Glock (story by) and Rick Alvarez & Marlon Wayans
Directed by: Michael Tiddes
Starring: Marlon Wayans, Bresha Webb, Michael Ian Black
Rated: TV-14
Watch the trailer & more info

Plot
Alan (Marlon Wayans), on a personal journey to find his parents, meets his brother, Russell and discovers he was born a sextuplet. Seeking out his other siblings (all played by Wayans), the two brothers set out on a road trip.

Verdict
This is bad. The biggest issue is that it's not funny and it isn't even trying. It's a low effort movie with Wayans playing dress up I suppose just to amuse himself.
I knew I wasn't going to like this, and I was still surprised at how terrible this movie is. The script had to be made up on the spot and it just doesn't end.
Skip it.

Review
The plot is pretty standard. A couple is expecting a baby and the husband is adopted. He sets out to find his birth mother and discovers he has five siblings. Wayans tries to be Dr. Doolittle, and it doesn't fare well. The characters just aren't funny, and they're all played by Wayans. The straight man on a quest for truth is Alan and he spends most of the movie with the least funny sibling Russell. Russell has to be inspired by The Simpsons Comic Book Guy. The Simpsons realize that character is funny only in a short duration. This movie fails to realize that.
The road trip would have been marginally better with any other character.

The entire movie's premise feels like Marlon Wayans was at home hanging out with his siblings Kenan, Sean, Damon, and Kim improvising different characters to entertain them. He then bet his siblings Netflix would pay him to make a movie based on that. His siblings bet against him realizing that what they had seen was not a movie. Marlon won and the entire world lost.

Fifteen minutes in and I was bored beyond watching. I couldn't force myself to pay attention. Sour candy and The Rockford Files act as deus ex machinas to force the plot forward. It's as bad as it reads.

I don't like this. It's annoying, and only one scene even approaches amusing, not funny, but just amusing.

SAAHO Movie REVIEW

In this article , we will be giving our REVIEW of "SAAHO" starring Prabhas & Shraddha Kapoor

SAAHO Movie REVIEW

"SAAHO" RATING

Overall Rating -  ★★1/2 (2.5/5)

( We know you love Mathematics . But this is not the right place to show off your skills . )

  1. ACTING - ★★★★
  2. DIRECTION - ★★1/2
  3. MUSIC - ★★
  4. VFX - ★★1/2
  5. STORY - ★★
  6. SCREENPLAY - ★★

PERFORMANCES

  • Prabhas has done a decent job but definitely not at all upto the level of Bahubali , and expecting that is too much to ask for. Bahubali is once in a lifetime film.

    • Shraddha impresses the most . Whether it's a action scene , dance , romantic number , she has given this film a lot. Full MARKS .

    • Amongst the bunch of villains , Chunky Panday is a delight to watch as a baddie after so long. Neil has a very mysterious sort of character , which I don't understand , why the makers left it midway

    Direction

    • Talking about the direction of the film or rather the Director Sujeeth . I didn't know much about Sujeeth , neither have I ever watched his film before. But during Saaho Promotion campaign , I heard a lot of praises about him , how at a age of 28 he is directing India's biggest action thriller . Though , film is a let down. Direction completely fails . 1st half offers absolutely nothing . It's only the last 1 hour where actually audience gets interested in the movie.

    OTHER TECHNICAL ASPECTS

    • Actually there's nothing much to talk about the VFX of the film. The movie got delayed 2 weeks just because of it and it's not at all appreciable.
    • South Industry seems to be wasting their money on VFX . Earlier 2.0 VFX could not justify it's budget and now Saaho repeats the same. ZERO is a brilliant example of how to use VFX effectively.
    • Action sequences is a Big plus point. The only aspect which could look to justify the colossal 350 CRORE budget .

    STORY & SCREENPLAY

    • With a pressure of making a masterpiece , makers have over tried everything . The story is complex to some a level such that audience will ultimately fail to recall what happened in the previous scene . Similarly , "To make a Masterpiece" , the efforts to add comedy look so high that the jokes ultimately falls flat.

    MUSIC

    • Music is a big let down . Though , it's not that bad but when you get to know the GOD of music , THE T-SERIES , is attached with the music of the film , you gotta feel disappointed . Still , Baby Won't you tell me and Bad Boy are my favorite amongst all.

    My Opinion

    • The biggest problem with Saaho or any other mega film which have tanked at the box office ( Race 3 , Zero , Thugs , Kalank ) is the unnecessary huge hype created by the makers before the release .
    • This hype obviously increases the curiosity and the expectations of the audience far more than usual.
    • Similar things , happened with Saaho , with makers giving 'Hints' since 2.5 yrs.
    • Everyone , including me had very high hopes that film must be a masterpiece in all manner . And this is where Saaho failed.

    Secret Obsession Netflix Movie Review

    Secret Obsession (2019)
    Watch Secret Obsession on Netflix
Written by: Kraig Wenman, Peter Sullivan
    Directed by: Peter Sullivan
Starring: Brenda Song, Mike Vogel, Dennis Haysbert
    Rated: TV-14
Watch the trailer & more information

    Plot
A brutal attack leaves a young woman with amnesia. When her memories start coming back, she realizes she no longer knows who to trust, not even those closest to her.

    Verdict
This is bad. It's like a very dark retelling of Overboard. It's a television episode stretched to feature length and it shows. From the boring story to the silly plot and flat dialog, every bit of this is sub par. The production value seems budget television level. Characters act incredibly stupid just to further the plot. Some of the issues aren't even difficult to fix.
    Skip it.

    Review
The most annoying part of this movie might be the score. It's annoying throughout this movie, always intrusive and blunt. It's scored to effectively announce loudly anytime danger is present.

This starts in media res with Jennifer fleeing an assailant. It has the typical horror movie trope where the assailant slowly walks after a character running full speed yet they can't escape. This scene's point is to provide an exciting opening, but it's just a bit silly. There are three witnesses that stumble upon Jennifer. They don't see her attacker who had to be just a few feet away and a few scenes later we're down to one witness who says no one else was there. At first I thought this was some nefarious plot point, but it ultimately seems that the writer just didn't keep track.

Jennifer has amnesia after the attack, but the reasons felt more believable with this setup than a lot of movies do. Even so I don't like the writing at all. I don't know if this is the most boring movie I've seen, but it is in the running.

The movie strongly indicates the man posing as her husband is hiding something. The movie could explore this interesting aspect where from Jennifer's point of view she has an intimate relationship with a stranger. They would have to get to know each other all over, but the movie avoids that completely.

At one point I was hoping this would be similar to The Game  or Rebirth, anything to make the plot more interesting.

Dennis Haysbert plays a detective and the way he breaks the case is laughable. It's pure plot contrivance. Jennifer got a tattoo of her last name's initial on her back. She's the only person that has that tattoo.

At this point I was curious about the antagonist's motive. Maybe Jennifer had some information, but know it turns out the antagonist is delusional. It's a very underwhelming reveal.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

Jennifer attempts escape multiple times and the antagonist believes her every time she tells him she won't try it again. Once I got to the end, the title made sense, but this movie is irritating it's so bad.

    MISSION MANGAL REVIEW

In this article , we will be giving our REVIEW of "MISSION MANGAL" starring Akshay Kumar .

    MISSION MANGAL REVIEW

MISSION MANGAL REVIEW , MISSION MANGAL , Bollywood Buff , Akshay Kumar

    SYNOPSIS

    • The movie is all about MOM (Mars Orbital Mission) or Mangalyaan where India became the first country to make it's Satellite reach Mars in the first attempt.
    • The movie starts with ISRO (Indian Research Space Organisation) sending a satellite in Space but it explodes just when it takes off due to a mistake by Tara (Vidya Balan), a part of the team headed by one of the world's brilliant scientist Rakesh Dhawan (Akshay Kumar).
    • Though Tara is saddened about the failure, but Rakesh believes that  there is no science without experiment. But, the people of the country and the government express disappointment and transfer Rakesh to the mission about sending a satellite in Mars. Though Rakesh knows that he has been assigned an impossible task but still takes in his stride to achieve this mammoth task.
    • The mission to reach Moon is given to an Indian-Origin scientist who is from NASA, Rupert Desai(Dalip Tahil). Tara lives with her husband Sunil(Sanjay Kapoor) , son and daughter. One day, she realises that India can send a satellite to Mars with a home-science technique. and tells Rakesh about it.
    • Rakesh talks about this to the Director of ISRO( Vikram Gokhale) who gives nod to the idea but Rupert mocks it. Rakesh asks for a team of senior scientists but to his surprise, they( Rakesh and Tara) are given a team of junior scientists comprising of Eka Gandhi(Sonakshi Sinha), Kritika Aggarwal(Taapsee Pannu), Varsha Pillai(Nithya Menen), Neha Siddiqui(Kirti Kulhari), Parmeshwar Naidu(Sharman Joshi) and Ananth Iyer( H.G. Dattatreya).
    • Here, Varsha and her husband, Vivek Pillai(Purab Kohli) live together but Vivek's mother always treats Varsha inferiorly as she is not having a child. Kritika is married to Rishi, an army officer. Neha always remains distraught as she is Muslim and can't find herself a house. Eka is here to practice for her future as she wants to go to NASA. Parmeshwar always thinks about not having a girlfriend and being Virgin. Ananth and his wife are disappointed by their son who is in San Francisco.
    • Though the team has a time of just 24 months to complete the mission, no-one is serious about the mammoth task except Rakesh and Tara. Soonly, the government disapproves of the mission. Everyone leaves the team with Tara thinking about quitting ISRO.
    • 4 months later, the mission is revived but with a lower budget (400 cr) as another mission has been put on stand-by. Now, Tara one day tells them a story which motivates them to work for this mission. How they achieve this mission forms the crux of the story.

        • Special mention for the direction of the movie as the movie is made in such a simple way that even a common man can understand the whole mission. The movie makes you proud and fills you with emotions of patriotism at the end of the movie. The movie has loads of drama and good humor at regular intervals.

        OTHER TECHNICAL ASPECTS

MISSION MANGAL REVIEW , MISSION MANGAL , Bollywood Buff , Akshay Kumar

        • The editing of the film is good and a runtime of 2hr and 13 minutes doesn't bore the audience.
        • The songs of the movie take the movie forward and doesn't slows the pace of the movie. Dil Mein Mars Hai is the only song I remember in the movie and Shaabaashiyan is almost used in the end credits of the movie.
        • The production value of the movie is rich and the VFX look superb on the big screen. They look real and catch the interest of the audience in the first 10 minutes of the movie.

        My Opinion

MISSION MANGAL REVIEW , MISSION MANGAL , Bollywood Buff , Akshay Kumar

        • Overall, MISSION MANGAL is the movie which should be watched by every Indian to know the story of our scientists and their work who have made India proud on the global level. The acting, story and VFX are top-notch. Few people might find the first half slow as the movie focuses on the family of the scientists but since the length of the movie is crisp, it excites the audience. The last hour of the movie is exciting and the experience enhances on the big screen.

          • The story by Ritesh Shah is inspired from real incidents is a fast paced movie. Though the movie starts on a slow note in the first 40 minutes, but picks the pace and keeps the viewers on the edge of their seats. The story progresses when Huma appears in the story ( Nora Fatehi) as she helps the officers and then the court-room drama is exciting.

          • The direction by Nikhil Advani is excellent and top-notch. The subject has been handled carefully by him as it could have become a documentry without the mass elements and it is this element which multiplies the reach of the movie in single-screens despite being a content driven movie.

          OTHER TECHNICAL ASPECTS

          • The screenplay is fast paced and is superbly written. The different happenings of the event are shown wonderfully and is great to watch.
          • The editing could have been a bit bitter as the movie could have been trimmed by 10 minutes in the 1st half.
          • The music of the movie is good as Rula Diya and O Saki Saki are good to the years and catchy.

          My Opinion

BATLA HOUSE REVIEW , Batla House , John Abraham ,Bollywood Buff

          • Overall, Batla House is a very interesting film and one of the better films of the genre. The movie is very informative and shows how police operates in such cases. The acting and the direction both are super-good and entertains the audience of both, single-screens and multiplex will love the some or the other portions of the movie. The movie should have a good run at the theaters because of no release in the coming week and has many holidays to take a benefit from.
