"Avatar" Facial Mo-Cap Team T-Shirt! And Who Exactly is Doing the "Avatar" Facial Capture Work?
Very Big Pics Of A Very Big Woman: Ginorimica
So Dreamworks Animation is getting more serious about showing off their MONSTERS VS. ALIENS handiwork - If you look at the high res shot of Ginormica (Reese Witherspoon) and The Missing Link (Will Arnett) you will see just how detailed their interpretation of human skin is - and I must say it is very detailed.
After watching the video on my post about photo realism, it is kinda different to see this level of detail in what is clearly a stylized attempt at representing the human body. It looks GOOD mind you, clearly they haven't crossed over into something weird or anything - to the contrary. But it does seem to be getting close to the maximum amount of realism within a stylized frame - if that makes any sense.
DWA has clearly spent a lot of time on this movie. It shows. Can't wait to see the final result!

"Taken"
If you've got a guy friend (or maybe it's you, who knows) who got the short end of the stick in a divorce/custody situation - like, say, wifey and The Kid are off with a new, richer, "cooler" guy - THIS is their new favorite movie, period. "Taken" is for 'first-dad's' every bit the wish-fulfillment fantasy that "Gran Torino" was for angry old men. Neeson is a retired CIA hardass who's fed-up wife took their daughter and got hitched to an ultra-wealthy tycoon years ago. Dad 1.0 is too square for their world, and too "uptight" about things like her traveling abroad... until, that is, she's kidnapped by a sex-slave ring in Paris. THEN suddenly daddy's obsessiveness and still-working spymaster skills are the only thing that can save her. They can do other things, too: Earlier in the film, his quick-thinking takedown of a stalker while freelance-guarding a pop singer nets daughter-dearest the music-industry invite she's been wishing for since girlhood. Just like that. Oh, and it goes without saying he was right to be concerned about traveling abroad. They should've just listened to him all along. Doesn't that beat all?
So, it's not a subtle movie... but it's a smart one that plays by smart rules and delivers the action goods without becoming a cartoon-in-a-bad-way. It also holds truer to the concept of a vigilante hero than almost any film I've seen on the subject. There's no sudden-layer of moral righteousness - this guy is a CIA "prevention" expert for whom lying, spying and torture are the tools of the trade, and he has the grim, nigh-amoral determination that would come with such in REALITY. Not to give away what will surely be the film's most talked-about moment, but suffice it to say THIS guy crosses a line that Dirty Harry, "Death Wish's" Paul Kersey and even The Punisher wouldn't cross - and he does it just to PROVE he's willing to.
It's also worth mentioning (though you're gonna get REALLY sick of it's mention from certain corners of the web and political sphere in the coming weeks) that this has to be without a doubt the most politically-incorrect "serious" film to play in theaters in a long time. Not only is the hero an avenging patriarch who also happens to be an (unapologetic) CIA torturer, the baddies are Albian immigrant (to Paris) criminals - who sport matching tattoos of a variation on the Islamic holy insignia, no less! - and, later, the henchman of a virgin-enslaving wealthy Arab figure known only as "The Sheik." YIKES! It's played sans-hyperbole and seems less "mean-spirited" than it does "unconcerned with collateral offense," but there's a tangible current of frustration and vengeance-by-proxy on certain elements of the French criminal world by the French filmmakers. Either way, you don't see it very often.
Bottom line: Well above-average, worth your time.
3D Spinoff "Puss In Boots" Gets Writer
Jim here. HR is reporting that Dreamworks Animation has signed on Tom Wheeler to pen the SHREK spinoff movie PUSS IN BOOTS which will be made in stereoscopic 3D.
The main character is voiced by Antonio Banderas and already has a massive following after the success of the original franchise SHREK - which also has a fourth installment coming out: SHREK GOES FOURTH, May 21, 2010.
There seems to be a very real chance that there will be some high-seas antics for the movie as Wheeler is currently working on CUTLASS ISLAND and just finished CAPTAIN COOK'S EXTRAORDINARY ATLAS. By the way, I am a direct descendant of Surveyor General, Captain Samual Holland who actually taught James Cook how to navigate and instilled the passion for the profession that lasted his lifetime. Just thought that is a cool thing to throw in there! :-)
Stay tuned for more on PUSS IN BOOTS when I get it... This movie has a shot at beating the originals at the box office if you ask me.

Quick Post: Aja's "Piranha 3D" Pushed To 2010
No surprise there right? WRONG. The date that Dimension has given for the release is March 19, 2010 - only 2 weeks after Tim Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND (March 5). Not only that, but Dreamworks Animation's HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON opens just a week later (March 26th)!
Obviously there are some serious scheduling conflicts present that will have to be worked out. Hopefully by 2010 there will be enough theaters to hold two 3D movies concurrently, but with HTTYD opening a week later? Impossible, even in the best case scenario.
Let's keep our eyes on who blinks first...

CUTAWAYS: AWARDS – LET’S JUST CALL THE WHOLE THING OFF
99% of the time this is not a political commentary blog, it’s just not the focus of what I do here. But sometimes current events just get under my skin and I have to let the frustrations out, albeit in my own warped fashion. As human beings we have no authority to make judgments on another person’s soul, but as Christians we are absolutely required to address harmful actions and philosophies where we find them, whether other people like it or not. Carrying out this responsibility is, in fact, considered a work of charity, part of what has been traditionally called The Seven Spiritual Works of Mercy. As explained in the Catechism, “The works of mercy are charitable actions by which we come to the aid of our neighbor in his spiritual and bodily necessities. Instructing, advising, consoling, comforting are spiritual works of mercy, as are forgiving and bearing wrongs patiently.” So, when I saw Speaker Pelosi’s appearance on television over the weekend, I found the philosophy she was spewing forth so potentially harmful that I felt compelled to address it with a post I entitled The Vomiting Nun Award.
Now for those of you who read the comment threads, you are by now aware of the small controversy surrounding that particular post. Some saw nothing wrong with it, while others felt it could potentially be seen as demeaning to those who have chosen the consecrated life. I did my best to adequately address those concerns in an update to that post, but to avoid future misunderstandings, that’s probably the last we’ll see of the Vomiting Nun for the foreseeable future.
That being said, there will still be times I feel it necessary to remark on the politics of the day. And even though Catholicism is at odds with ALL of the political parties in this country over various policies, right now it’s the Democrats who seem especially heinous in their rapidly expanding anti-life agenda. What was that today, a $335,000,00 million payout to STD programs (which has to include contraception) under the guise of economic stimulus? So now, teaching kids to put condoms on bananas is going to cure our economic woes? Please, gentle readers, before I get back to movies and catechetics where I belong, bear with me just one more time as I offer up the following (slightly altered) movie clip which properly expresses my personal feelings over what’s going on in congress.
Got Your "Monsters Vs. Aliens" 3D Glasses Yet?
A good friend of mine, Jason Bayless of Zombie Popcorn sent me some images of what the glasses look like. Interesting that they have to label which side is left and right! I guess there is no way around providing these to the swarms of folks who have never seen how glasses kinda drape over ears to hold them in place...
You can get your free 3D glasses at these selected locations: Kroger, Ralphs, Frys, Safeway, Supervalu, Albertsons, Food Lion, A&P, Pathmark, Coburns, Fairway, Fresh Brands, Hy Vee, Nash Finch, Roundy's, Winn Dixie, K-Mart, Dollar General, Hess, CVS, Meijer (1/31) and Target (1/31).
As much as all the effort (and money) that Dreamworks Animation is putting into the promotion of MONSTERS VS. ALIENS is well intentioned, I hope that they do succeed in this campaign. The movie looks great after all...
I do recommend checking out their MvsA site here. They have done an excellent job with it - definitely wasn't just thrown together like some movie sites. Hope you get to see the 3D commercial! Don't forget that NBC is also airing CHUCK in 3D the next day, so don't throw them away.

New "Monsters Vs. Aliens" Posters Hit The Interwebs!
Jim here. Have a look at these new posters (via JoBlo) - characters that obviously stand out in the movie: Dr. Cockroach is played by Hugh Laurie, Ginormica is played by Reese Witherspoon, Gallaxhar by Rainn Wilson and The Missing Link by Will Arnett.
You can easily see the homage to the 1950's with the font being used.
I am not overly thrilled with the posters to tell you the truth. Nothing I didn't expect to see after seeing the B.L.O.B. poster back in December. Just calling 'em as I see 'em. No doubt the characters will be endearing, but I guess I am looking for something to catch me off guard about MvsA... you know?
Maybe the Superbowl commercial will spice it up a little :-)

Quick Post: "Tintin" Gets A Title, Screenwriters and Casting
Steven Spielberg will be helming the first iteration of the franchise and joining Bell and Craig will be Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Mackenzie Crook, Gad Elmaleh and Toby Jones.
Announced writers today are Steven Moffat (DOCTOR WHO), Edgar Wright (SHAUN OF THE DEAD) with Joe Cornish with the screenplay duties.
Release is slated for 2011. Principal photography starts TODAY!
I love these choices! I was impressed with Bell in JUMPER and thought he carried his scenes very well - quite athletic too which will be important in the performace capture.
Daniel Craig is of course no slouch and should be interesting to see how performance capture works on 007.
Well now I am stoked! A 2011 release as well! Love it when a plan comes together... Bring on Jackson!
CUTAWAYS: THE 2009 VOMITING NUN AWARD
According to Encyclopedia.com, “there are now almost 40 award ceremonies on TV every year, from the Billboard Music Awards and the Screen Actor's Guild Awards to that most demographically resonant of statuette events, the Teen Choice Awards.” But you know, even though it’s pretty crowded out there already, I’ve still kind of wanted to institute an award of my own. It’s just a pop culture kind of thing to do. The trouble is, I didn’t really know what to call it or who to give it to.
Until I saw the following 40 second video clip…
So procreation is behind our economic woes and must be stopped? I think I’ve seen this plot in a few movies over the years. It never ends well. Unless you like the taste of Soylent Green that is?
Poor old Nancy, she just can’t stop herself can she? But her continued returning to the same old well did give me the answer to my awards dilemma. It reminded me of Proverbs 26:11 which tells us, “Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool that repeats his folly.” And that, in turn, reminded me of a quick scene from The Amityville Horror (the old, good version) which inexplicably causes me to giggle hysterically every time I see it. I think it’s the over the top acting involved. Irene Dailey, the nice lady who plays Sister Helena in the movie, was actually a well respected stage actress who never managed to land a foothold in Hollywood. Because of that, I suppose, she just had to make the most of whatever little screen time she could grab, and in this clip in particular, she gives it everything she’s got, turning a simple retching scene into an onomatopoeic masterpiece.
So, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, in honor of your incessant habit of appearing on television to trash Catholic teachings while at the same time publicly heralding your own “ardent practicing” of your religion, I hereby bestow upon you the newly minted, entirely un-coveted first annual B-Movie Catechism Vomiting Nun Award. This clip’s for you…
UPDATE
I have been (charitably) called to task by one of my regular readers whose opinion I value over the fact that this post may come across as offensive or disrespectful to those who have chosen the consecrated life. I deeply apologize if that is the case.
The in-movie context of the above clip, for those who may not have seen the film, is that Sister Helena is so overcome with nausea by the atmosphere of evil in her niece's new house that she must flee its presence. It seemed to fit with what I was commenting on here, but I can see where the context isn't communicated in the abbreviated clip I provided. The humor I've always found in the scene has never in any way been related to the fact that the character is a nun, but because the actress seems to have chosen to interpret the scene using a phonetic reading of the script. Every time I watch the movie, that BLAUUUUGH! just knocks me right out of the film and causes me to start giggling. I've never denied there's something wrong with me.
So now I'm torn. Do I take the post down? Do I leave it up with this explanation as an example that I don't work under a charism of infallibility here? What does everyone think?
The Darker Side of "Coraline"
But this is Henry Selick! You know - THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS Henry Selick. And if you have read Neil Gaiman's book, then you know that there are going to be some very interesting treatments to be explored throughout this movie.
So have a watch of the latest CORALINE trailer - it's on the darker side... :-)
CORALINE opens February 6th!

Underworld: Rise of The Lycans
What I like best about the improbably-good "Underworld" movies is that it's a franchise wholly of and about itself - a rare feat. It's not based on or trying to pay fealty to some previously-published material and (even better) it's not trying to be in any way bigger than it's own story and world: Here's a trilogy (and counting?) about a centuries-long war between Vampires and Lycans (Werewolves) that never makes a move in the direction of social commentary, metaphor or even genre-deconstruction. It's Vampires aren't AIDS metaphors or wink-nudge abstinence advocates - they're pale, fanged, blood-drinking immortal aristocrats. It's Werewolves aren't stand-ins for puberty-angst; they're giant hulking wolf-headed monsters.
The two "later" films were futuristic and sprawling, this prequel is (literally) medieval and limited to a handful of locations centralized around a single Vampire fortress - in fact, it resembles nothing so much as a BBC 'royal manor' soap opera by way of the Universal Monsters. The story primarily concerns the hero-journey of Lucian (Michael Sheen,) the memorable Lycan rebel leader from the first film, here originating as a slave (the Vamps use the Lycans as brute laborers, the two races are technically cousins but the Vampires seem to be better about money) who's picked up a yearning to breath free while coverlty fooling around with the King's daughter Sonia. Sonia is embodied by Rhona Mitra, the amazonian Irish/Indian beauty whom you'd remember from "Doomsday" if you hadn't ignored it in theatres but probably know best as Kevin Bacon's unluckily-attractive neighbor from "Hollow Man."
What you ultimately get is mid-budget, feature length "seige of Helm's Deep" with armored, sword-wielding vampires standing in for the humans are werewolves standing in for the Orcs. I'm perfectly happy being among those for whom that spells "worth a look." Oh, and you also get Bill Nighy, who doesn't really NEED to act in this but does anyway. Good on him.
Small footnote, though: Warner Bros./DC Comics? If you're looking at ANYONE to play "Wonder Woman" OTHER than Rhona Mitra... can I ask why?

Verifying the growing strategy of releasing films in 3D, opening week 3D screens outperformed 2D screens 6:1.
“We are proud of the great opening week that Lionsgate had with MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D in RealD theatres,” said Michael Lewis, chairman and CEO of RealD. “3D continues to be the bright spot in the industry and it’s clear that audiences responded to the promise of this superior filmgoing experience in RealD 3D.”
Steve Rothenberg, President of Distribution for Lionsgate said “We are thrilled over the fantastic audience response to MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D. Lionsgate has been a leader in horror innovation, so it was important that MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D be a showcase for today’s 3D as an immersive experience and not just a gimmick. RealD helped make that possible, and these opening numbers are proof of the film’s success.”
Presented in stunningly real, cutting edge 3D projection, MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D stars Jensen Ackles (TV's "Smallville" and "Supernatural"), Jaime King (THE SPIRIT, SIN CITY, SIN CITY 2) and Kerr Smith (FINAL DESTINATION, "Dawson's Creek"). A remake of the 1981 horror classic, MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D is directed by Patrick Lussier from a screenplay by Todd Farmer and Zane Smith, based on a screenplay by John Beaird, story by Stephen Miller, and is produced by Jack Murray.

Paramount Offers To Pay Print Fees Directly To Theaters!
Then the credit crunch hit and money dried up fairly fast - even for money making ventures like the movies (which don't seem to suffer AT ALL during hard times).
Enter the studios and in particular Paramount, who are getting very anxious to get the theaters converted to digital and to provide the required equipment for 3D add-ons from companies like Real D. So Paramount has stepped forward today acoording to Variety and offered to pay the print fees directly to the theaters if they can finance their own conversions.
A print fee is representative of the old system of printing off copy reels of the original movies and distributing them to theaters across the country. It was expensive to do this. With digital movies, the print fee is practically eliminated and now the studios are saying that perhaps we will pay theaters this "virtual" fee (for digital movies) if they are willing to invest as well.
Apparently there are about 1,250 theaters converted to 3D from the 5,620 digital screens that are available (and growing).
Paramount will pay a "virtual print fee" to any theater owner that converts at least half of all of it's screens to digital and will pay even more of a fee for 3D conversions.
"We urge all studios to give this creative option a fair chance," John Fithian of the National Association of Theater Owners said.
This is awesome news. I had not expected movement from the studios on a wide scale on this front but the end result of higher profits is the golden carrot enticing everyone along. Great to hear this!!
Just What Is The Uncanny Valley?
James Cameron is attempting to cross this valley with AVATAR in 3D no less. It is a massive undertaking that is certainly having its trials and tribulations over at WETA. I have heard from a number of sources that all is not well with the effort and that Cameron has been, shall we say, "upset" with the results thus far.
That doesn't mean that WETA will not deliver, far from it. I think that they will and it certainly was in the best interest of the movie to delay it until December. But let me tell you that the effort has been monumental in trying to achieve photo-realism for AVATAR.
Personally I have had enough of the stylization attempts for human emotion (Wall-E is nice, but I want to forget that the human on the screen is well, not human at all). Yeah, stylization has it's place but I have seen enough of it as representing the best we can do. I want photo realism. The time has come and man, if Cameron, Weta and Image Metrics can deliver... You will demand it too. You are going to witness history with AVATAR in more ways than one.
A reader has sent me a video clip that does an OUTSTANDING job explaining just what the Uncanny Valley is and how it applies to movies and gaming. Take a look and understand just how hard it is to achieve photo realism:

New Poster and Leaked Clip are "Up"!
New "Monsters vs. Aliens" Behind The Scenes Featurette AND What You Can Expect...
Pay particular attention to the scenes in which Phil McNally and his team are using their handheld, 3D Virtual Camera to experiment and achieve the best viewing angles for the movie's audience.
See how they can simply move the camera and alter the angle of what is being seen on the screen? That is because the software has captured all known angles from which to work from - now that is powerful. James Cameron is doing the same thing - only with live actors! In either case, the director is able to go back in post-production and alter anything he wishes: angles, lenses, depth - it really is amazing.
Let me take the time now to really thank Jeff Katzenberg for the evangelism that he is putting into 3D. Sure he has a large invested interest in the format, but a lot of it is coming from a different place - vision.
When I started MarketSaw back in late 2006, I knew 3D was going to take off and I was surprised that no one else was really reporting on it. I just so happen to love the format (even the old anaglyph glasses) but to have modern technology deliver on the promise of immersive 3D - I had to be a part of it.
So Katzenberg and I have something in common - as does Cameron/Pace and even Zemeckis; a passion and vision for 3D. Mark my words, the movies that you will REALLY want to go see initially are the result of the passionate filmmakers in these first few years. While others catch up, they have been toiling away with the processes and equipment to come up with today's results. It should be mind boggling. MONSTERS VS. ALIENS should be a home run. The 4 P's of marketing are all addressed: Product (Awesome looking movie; seemingly intriguing story), Price (a little extra for 3D but worth it), Place (New 3D theaters are springing up everywhere) and Promotion (Superbowl - need I say more).
But I will add a last P to that mix: Passion. Look for it in the studios and directors and you will stand a better chance of seeing something memorable and not just entertaining. Disney is another good example of a studio jumping with passion into 3D.
As said, Dreamworks Animation is going full out on the marketing for the movie by taking out a Superbowl ad and distributing close to 150 million 3D glasses across the country. Awareness is key and while I may not particularly like how the marketing is being done, the need exists. So my bottom line is: Go Dreamworks!
Oh and Phil, I finally have an image of you to put up on MarketSaw! Reclusive fellow aren't you? :-) Speaking of passion for 3D - Dreamworks Animation is lucky to have you.

"Condition Dead" To Be Shot In 3D? "My Bloody Valentine 3D" Sequel? It Is Being Discussed...
"Condition Dead would be a perfect 3D movie... It's an aggressive gritty zombie movie with the tagline: When the Dead Rise... Leave it to the professionals.
The story centres on a team that polices 'outbreaks' of a certain kind all over the world. But this time, the outbreak proves to be different than expected.
It's a great script by Dave Davis and would be a blast to make and even more fun to watch."
And on a MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D sequel:
"Todd (Farmer) and I have a great concept for the continuing adventures of those who might survive. But we'll have to stay tuned and see if we're lucky enough to make that."
I think Lussier has got the chops to make this happen now. He did a bang up job on MBV3D and if you haven't seen it yet - get out and see it in 3D! It is well worth it and loads of fun. I am fairly sure you will see a sequel as well as more 3D projects from Lussier - hopefully CONDITION DEAD!

CUTAWAYS
In movie terminology a cutaway is “a brief shot that interrupts the main action of a film, often to depict related matter or supposedly concurrent action.” In B-Movie Catechism terminology, Cutaways is our brand spanking new companion piece to Outtakes where we’ll be presenting and discussing brief video clips from some of our more… outlandish weekly viewings. (Note: The B-Movie Catechism cannot be held responsible if watching these clips tempts you to rent or buy these movies. Endanger your sanity at your own risk.) Our inaugural clip comes from the nearly impossible to describe 1976 opus, APE.
Obviously, what you have here is a blatant attempt by the South Koreans to cash in on Dino De Laurentiis’ remake of King Kong using a monkey costume they picked up for a few wons at Party City. But APE goes far beyond being a mere rip-off. This is one of those films bad movie lovers hope for every time they press play, a movie where, scene after scene, you sit in gaped mouthed disbelief at what you’re eyes are seeing. Did APE really just wrestle a quite real, but also obviously quite dead, great white shark? Yes. Did APE really just stomp on some doll houses while giving the middle finger to a news helicopter? Yes. And did APE (in the above clip) really stumble across the filming of a chop socky flick for no good reason whatsoever? Heck yes! Now if you guessed from this scene that APE was originally filmed in 3-D, well, give yourself a cookie. But if you somehow guessed what those guys plan on doing with that battering ram, then please tell me, because they never show you in the movie and I’d like to know.
APE jumps around a lot like that, often introducing random plot points and characters who appear for one scene only to never show up again. But then again, who am I to complain as the same thing happens in Scripture all of the time. The book Bible Legends by Lillian S. Freehof & Howard Schwartz reminds of us of Serah bat Asher, a woman who left Egypt with the rest of the Jews (Gen 46:17) and is still around three hundred years later when Moses takes the census (Num 26:46). As far as Canon is concerned, Serah is just another one of those gazillion names which pop up amongst the various genealogies scattered throughout the Bible. But that doesn’t stop people from wondering about her and her unusually long life, especially in the Midrash where the Jewish Rabbis seemed to have thought about her a lot. Over the years, according to Bible Legends, Midrashic stories about Serah have placed her at the feet of Jacob singing to him, giving Moses directions to the tomb of Joseph, and even living well into the 1100s where she either died in a synagogue fire or was assumed bodily into Heaven. Not bad for just two mentions in the Bible, huh?
Neither Christians nor Jews are obligated to believe in these extra-Biblical musings, of course. Which is a relief because, The Catholic Church having formally recognized approximately 11,000 saints (and counting), there are a fair number of questionable tales out there. As noted in the 1939 Catholic Encyclopedia, by the Middle Ages, “it had unfortunately happened that the stories of the saints were supplemented and embellished by the people according to their primitive theological conceptions and inclinations, the legend became to a large extent fiction. The age of the Reformation received the legend in this form... [however] on account of the importance which the saints possessed even among Protestants, especially as the instruments of Divine grace, the legends have remained in use to this day, particularly in sermons.” But why, especially when we know some of the details are, shall we say, exaggerated? Father Pat McCloskey, O.F.M. believes it’s because “Saints remind us of the communion of saints, the belief that we are all called to holiness, to share life with God. Saints and angels used their freedom wisely and inspire us to do the same. They are holy because they cooperated with the grace of God, wherever that led. Saints help us by encouraging us to respond as generously as they did.”
So, for the parts of stories which hold truth and inspire us, we should give thanks and pay heed. As for those parts which sometimes make us shake our heads in exasperation (I’m looking at just about every part of you APE), well, we can always blog about them can’t we.
Concept Art: "Disney's A Christmas Carol" & Spoilers
I will reiterate that Disney is keeping the imagery to be very Dickens indeed and old London looks stunning and inviting (at least the shots I have seen). Insert Robert Zemeckis' wonderful performance capture prowess and you have what should be an instant Christmas classic to be watched on future Christmas Eves on your 3D Home Entertainment system... of course!
How far can Zemeckis take us down this journey? All the world is a canvas with motion capture so it is really only limited by his imagination - and one would imagine that Jim Carrey is ready and willing to fulfill any wish that he might have in this pic.
I am reprinting some of the spoiler info that was originally posted here back in March 2008 as I thought there is some very interesting items in it in light of the poster and stills we have seen:

OVERALL COMMENTS:
- A Christmas Carol is full of Jim Carrey humor: Lots of yelling, screaming and facial expressions.
- He plays 4 characters at least - Scrooge and the ghosts. This is not new info of course, but confirmed.
- Michael J. Fox is DEFINITELY in the movie (IMDB shows it as a rumor). He has plenty of lines that are pure Fox humor - always down on himself, and very SARCASTIC. My source did not pass on what role he is playing however, although IMDB has him as Tiny Tim.
- There is a "Beggar" character that is constantly piping up with witty one liners throughout the movie. He will be seen carrying a cup.
JIM CARREY RELATED:
- There is a scene where ALL THREE of Carrey's ghost interact. They don't speak English either exactly - they speak with thick accents and the words don't sound right. There are actually spaces -or gaps of silence - between their words. Weird! Sounds awesome, but very odd. Right up Carrey's alley to be sure!
- Jim Carrey does A LOT of improvisation here. This is to be expected, but now it has been confirmed by a source. Apparently this improvisation has been a part of the movie since it was written! This openness to creativity has all been approved and made to happen by Zemeckis. Good on you Bob! They have a lot of confidence in Carrey and justifiably so. The guy cracks me up - always has.
SANTA CLAUS RELATED:
- YEP! THE BIG GUY IS IN IT. Remember little Sammi Hanratty letting this slip? Well it has been confirmed by my source.
- Santa wears - get this - a red and PURPLE Santa suit!
- My source heard John Goodman could be the actor in this role but he was NOT sure, so do not count on this. Only count on seeing Santa Claus in it.
- You can expect the REINDEERS to talk! Yep. Apparently Rudolph doesn't like Blitzen and they all have very unique voices.
- Santa and the reindeer don't have a very big impact on the film as far as storyline goes, but you can expect this part to be HILARIOUS. It's more like a cameo appearance :-)
- Apparently Santa is thinner in this movie than others.
- Sammi Hanratty is the character that interacts with Santa and the reindeer. I suspect it is her catching him performing his "Christmasly duties".

So, yeah - I am pretty hyped about this movie; that's why it is number 3 on my list of the Top Ten Most Anticipated 3D Movies of 2009. Stay tuned for more when I get it! :-)
