New in Theaters for July

A lot of movies are premiering in July with it being the month of blockbusters, but only a few of them interest me. This is why they might be worth watching... or avoiding.

WATCHING
Beyond Star Trek (July 22, 2016)
I was a huge fan of the reboot Star Trek (2009), but Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) was a disappointment. I'm willing to roll the dice as the cast does a great job with the characters. I want more Kirk, Spock, Bones, and Uhuru!

The Purge: Election Year (July 1, 2016)
The Purge (2013) and The Purge: Anarchy (2014) are fun what if scenarios where all crime is legal once a year for twenty-four hours. With Frank Grillo returning, I'm expecting more of the same which is a good thing.

The Infiltrator (July 15, 2016)
Bryan Cranston as an FBI agent in a Pablo Escobar movie? Cranston alone is enough of a draw.

The BFG (July 1, 2016)
Stephen Spielburg is directing his next movie after Bridge of Spies (2015), a movie that seems a lot like Iron Giant (1999). Yes, have some.

Captain Fantastic (July 8, 2016)
Viggo Mortenson as an isolationist father providing for his kids? That's all I need to know.

AVOIDING
The Secret Life of Pets (July 8, 2016)
Is this Look Who's Talking (1989) and Toy Story (1995) for animals? One of those is terrible and one is great. Terrible mixed with anything is terrible. Please, no.

Ghostbusters (July 15, 2016)
This is Ghostbusters in name only just to swipe a few dollars out of peoples' pockets. If you like director Paul Feig's brand of comedy go for it, but don't expect a legitimate successor to Ghostbusters.

Bad Moms (July 29, 2016)
Three overworked moms ditch their responsibilities to have some fun. Mothers are great, but I don't think this movie will be.
