In the Netflix original series The Crown, Queen Elizabeth II is just twenty-five and a woman, forced to lead the monarchy of Buckingham Palace, England
The trailer states it's inspired by true events. I wonder how much liberty it takes with the story. I assume everything personal is made up. Hopefully the history is faithful.
This looks like Netflix's attempt to win over the Downton Abbey crowd.
Claire Foy is the Queen with Matt Smith as her husband Prince Philip. John Lithgow is almost unrecognizable as Churchill. The drama, at least in part, is going to center around Philip as he reconciles being husband to a wife and yet a subject to the Queen. He's told his job is to serve her. In one scene he refuses to kneel before his wife who commands him to do so as the Queen.
The Queen reluctantly fulfills a duty, but the crown must come first in all things. We see even in this trailer that Elizabeth is strong and defiant.
