Well, hello there, just in case you missed the ceremony, you didn't bother checking who won and who lost and you didn't even read the title of this post, well, in that case, I'm here to tell you that SAM ROCKWELL IS A FUCKING ACADEMY AWARD WINNER! AND IT WAS ABOUT FUCKING TIME.
Excuse my language, it's just that I'm still so excited that he won and I haven't slept in more than 24 hours so I'm not to be accounted for the stuff I'm typing. But back to Sam Rockwell and how much this guy deserved the award. Though he has been awarded for playing Officer Dixon in Martin McDonagh's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, this Oscar is also for all those roles he delivered to perfection but nobody --and by that I mean the award people-- cared about. Just think about Moon or Conviction (which I saw yesterday for the first time and I was blown away by his performance and his genuine, real chemistry with Swank) or The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford or any other role he has played because this man puts his all in each performance he delivers. He plays assholes most of the time and makes you care about him. This man deserves all the awards in the world.
And his speech? It was just beautiful. He started with, "I'd like to thank the Academy. I never thought I'd say those words" and then went one and took a moment to shout out to Leslie, his girlfriend, and to dedicate the award to Philip Seymour Hoffman. Man, it was so moving, and Martin McDonagh almost cried.

I don't know how you all felt about him, but I absolutely loved Jimmy Kimmel, especially his opening monologue --which I almost missed because I thought the ceremony started at 2:30 AM (I have no idea what time that is in the US) like every goddamn time I watched it but now, this year it was 2 AM. Anyway, the monologue was brilliant. I admit not all of his gags worked there, but the jokes improved as the ceremony went on.

I also loved the way Lupita Nyong'o and Kumail Nanjiani presented the Oscar for production design and spoke out for immigrants. At some point, Lupita said, "Like everyone in this room and everyone watching at home, we are dreamers. We grew up dreaming of one day working in the movies, dreams are the foundation of America." and Kumail added, "So to all the Dreamers out there, we stand with you." AND IT WAS SO FREAKING BEAUTIFUL.
Then there were the beautiful best original song performances. They were all amazing, especially This Is Me which was so moving. Call Me by Your Name's wasn't though, it was just dreadful.
The highlight of the night though was Frances McDormand's acceptance speech. "Okay, so I'm hyperventilating a little bit. If I fall over, pick me up cause I've got some things to say," she began.
"I think this is what Chloe Kim must have felt like after doing back-to-back 1080s in the Olympic halfpipe. Did you see that? Okay, that's what it feels like.""I want to thank Martin McDonagh, look what you did. We are a bunch of hooligans and anarchists but we do clean up nice. I want to thank every single person in this building."
"And my sister Dorothy. I love you, Dot. And I especially want to thank my clan, Joel and Pedro "McCoen". These two stalwart individuals were well-raised by their feminist mothers. They value themselves, each other and those around them. I know you are proud of me and that fills me with everlasting joy."
"And now I want to get some perspective. If I may be so honoured to have all the female nominees in every category stand with me in this room tonight, the actors - Meryl, if you do it, everybody else will, c'mon - the filmmakers, the producers, the directors, the writers, the cinematographer, the composers, the songwriters, the designers. C'mon!"
"Okay, look around everybody. Look around, ladies and gentlemen, because we all have stories to tell and projects we need financed. Don't talk to us about it at the parties tonight. Invite us into your office in a couple days, or you can come to ours, whatever suits you best, and we'll tell you all about them. I have two words to leave with you tonight, ladies and gentlemen: inclusion rider".
