Thursday Movie Picks: Movies You Have a Different Opinion After Rewatch

I don't usually change my mind and, for this reason, I never rewatch movies. Unless I really enjoyed them, of course. There are some exceptions here and there though, like when a film loved by most was average at best for me, or when I'm just curious to know how I'd feel today about movies I loved as a kid and teen. The latter are the movies I'm focusing on for this week's Thursday Movie Picks, the weekly series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves.

The Pagemaster (1994)

The story follows Richard, a young cowardly boy who enters a library to escape a storm only to be transformed into a cartoon and transported into a world of books. Although I had completely forgotten about this film until a couple of years ago, I really liked this as a kid. Now, the only interesting thing about it is the storyline which is unfortunately terribly executed.

The Simpsons Movie (2007)

The story sees Homer Simpson as he screws up big time when he dumps his pig's waste into Springfield's lake. I loved this film when it came out and I watched it so many times I lost count. Then a few months ago I saw it on Netflix and had the brilliant idea to rewatch it. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't either as good as I remembered it.

Space Jam (1996)

The story follows Michael Jordan as he decides to quit basketball and play baseball instead, but he's terrible at it. In the meantime, five aliens take over Looney Tunes land and capture its inhabitants. Bugs Bunny challenges the aliens to a basketball game to see his people free and asks Jordan for help. I used to watch this all the time when I was a kid, but rewatching it last year was one of the most dreadful experiences I've had in a while.

My advice?  Do not rewatch movies you loved in your childhood or teen years as chances are you're going to ruin the good memory you have of them.
