Must Watch: New Featurette For ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY!

Wow. This featurette (a must watch) really nails it home for me - ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY is looking extremely good.

The visuals are amazing, the message that director Gareth Edwards is emphasizing is bang-on, and I am a sucker for behind the scenes shots. I'm looking forward to some original material being exploited in the STAR WARS universe.

"It’s a style that is unlike any other Star Wars movie," Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said. She recounted seeing director Gareth Edwards, camera on his shoulder, testing shots guerilla-style as a sign that this movie would be different. "I think that’s what’s so amazing about his style," she said. "This is going to be an incredibly immersive experience when you see Rogue One."

Director Gareth Edwards recounted traveling to New York for the voiceover session with Skywalker Sound’s Matthew Wood. When Jones delivered the line, “POWER,” Edwards summed up their reactions succinctly. "We looked at each other and had nerdgasms."

Yes. James Earl Jones returns as the voice of Darth Vader. You can't get any better than that! One of cinema's greatest villains (if not the best) will be back in all his glory.

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY opens on December 16!!

CONFIRMED: J.J. Abrams Taking Reins Of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

Finally we have word (via The Wrap) that J.J. Abrams has accepted the helm of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII! This after turning down the opportunity back in December.

Apparently ARGO director Ben Affleck was being seriously considered as well, but an aggressive Kathleen Kennedy and Disney nabbed the STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS director Abrams.

By the time he starts lensing EP VII Abrams will be well versed on the requirements of shooting with an eye toward a 3D conversion. I was hoping for native 3D but will we see this from Abrams? Most likely not unfortunately. But a great conversion will suffice - along the lines of Marvel have been doing lately will bring a smile to my face.

What do you think of this selection? Personally I think Affleck would have been better, but I've been warming to Abrams of late. I just think Abrams style is better suited to STAR TREK which always seemed a bit lighter to me than STAR WARS.

Kasdan Returns! Joins Kinsberg In Writing STAR WARS Sequels

Of course Lawrence Kasdan has STAR WARS in his blood, having written THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK as well as RETURN OF THE JEDI (and another little movie called RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK) - so who wouldn't be thrilled with his inclusion in the new STAR WARS braintrust? Good call guys. Throw in Simon Kinberg's X-Men history and you have a potent team.

Both have reportedly sign on to pen at least one installment of the upcoming sequel trilogy for Lucasfilm / Disney, with Michael Arndt writing Episode VII. Kasdan and Kinberg will both be producing as well.

Watch: New JURASSIC PARK 3D Trailer Is Here!

Man do I have fond memories of seeing JURASSIC PARK in the theaters - loved that first scene when they encountered the giant plant eaters out in the SUV and of course the first T-Rex scenes.

I saw this trailer pre-roll in 2D in front of SKYFALL in IMAX on Wednesday night (midnight). Looked AMAZING.

With his remastering of the epic into a state-of-the-art 3D format, Spielberg introduces the three-time Academy Award-winning blockbuster to a new generation of moviegoers and allows longtime fans to experience the world he envisioned in a way that was unimaginable during the film's original release. Starring Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Samuel L. Jackson and Richard Attenborough, the film based on the novel by Michael Crichton is produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Gerald R. Molen. 

Universal Pictures will release Steven Spielberg's groundbreaking masterpiece JURASSIC PARK in 3D on April 5, 2013. ENJOY!! And check out JURASSIC PARK 3D's poster right here.

MarketSaw Exclusive Confirmed: STAR WARS 7, 8 And 9 Tabled. 3D Announcement Coming... DISNEY HAS BOUGHT LUCASFILM!!

Just as we said all along. STAR WARS 7, 8 and 9 are definitely coming starting in 2015 and then every 2 or 3 years. Not only that - and mark my words - they will be 3D movies too. We also said that Lucas would NOT be directing them. Boy, did we get some flack for passing along that story to the masses (almost as much as when we broke the exclusive that Peter Jackson's legal issues with new Line have been settled, he will be directing not just 1, but 3 Hobbit movies and that they will be shot in native 3D), but in the end we were right on both stories.

MarketSaw also had the story that the existing STAR WARS library would be converted as well.

$4 billion dollars later and Disney owns Lucasfilm, complete with STAR WARS 7, 8 and 9 in development already. Nice job! Add in Pixar and Marvel with Disney's already burgeoning resources and wow, what a modern media company!

From THR: Kathleen Kennedy, current co-chair of Lucasfilm, will become Lucasfilm's president, reporting to Walt Disney Studios chair Alan Horn as part of the stock and cash transaction. Disney is paying approximately half the price in cash and will issue 40 million shares of stock on Tuesday, the company said in a statement. Kennedy will serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, with the franchise's creator and Lucasfilm founder George Lucas serving as creative consultant.

Says Lucas: "For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next. It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I’m confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney’s reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products."

Now I am truly excited for the future of the Star Wars universe. Imagine. I mean, Joss Whedon is under the Disney umbrella too! Throw him on STAR WARS 7, 8 and 9! Yeah!!!
