This is a first! Oscar producers are streaming live today's Oscar nominees lunch! I'm curious, but I imagine that will not be much entertaining let's check it.
academyawards on livestream.com. Broadcast Live Free
While starts let me share some more info about the "You're Invited" campaign that will open the red carpet and backstage experience to viewers at home via live streaming.
“In total, ABC will dispatch about 20 to 30 cameras for live streaming coverage at Oscar.com,” reports Ad Age’s Andrew Hampp. “Red-carpet footage will be available for free ad-supported streaming, while the other more behind-the-scenes cameras will be protected by a $4.99 pay-wall.” This payable revolution is partially the brainchild of John Lasseter, the Pixar chief (and high-ranking Academy member) who wanted to help score high ratings, and worked with his corporate sibling – Pixar is owned by Disney, which also owns ABC – to come up with the multiscreen plan months ago.
“If you’re watching the telecast with your laptop, you could see someone deliver their thank-you speech on TV, then as the music plays you’ll see them walk off the stage on your laptop, going offstage through the control room and onto the thank-you camera,” Albert Cheng, the digital chief of ABC, told Mr. Hampp. “You can follow them all the way down to the press room, assuming you can keep up or don’t get distracted by anything else.”
