The Weekly Movie Watch Volume 15

This week I watched Hellion, Chronicles of Riddick.

I watch movies every week and then write down my thoughts. Read my previous reviews!
My rating is simple, Watch It, It Depends, Skip it.

Directed by: Kat Candler
Starring: Aaron Paul, Juliette Lewis, Josh Wiggins
Rated: R

Plot:
A father and son deal with death and responsibility as their choices tear their family apart.

Review:
Hellion takes a measured pace as it unfurls its story. It's very much a character driven piece. The movie has a very real feel to it as main characters and side characters deal with their emotions and broken families. It's underwhelming at first, becoming deeper upon reflection. I found Aaron Paul hard to buy as the father, but he didn't do a bad job.
It depends.

Vin Diesel in Chronicles of Riddick

Written by: Jim Wheat & Ken Wheat (characters), David Twohy (written by)
Directed by: David Twohy
Starring: Vin Diesel, Judi Dench, Karl Urban, Keith David
Rated: PG-13

Plot:
The sequel to Pitch Black, which was enjoyable, under-the-radar movie. It's one I never expected to get a sequel.
Chronicles of Riddick follows Richard Riddick as he escapes from mercenaries and is chased by the dreaded necromongers who want to kill everyone.

Review:
The first movie was a focused low budget adventure. This movie obviously has a big budget and covers a lot of ground. It's definitely entertaining but falls into the typical tropes. It does a lot of things competently, but doesn't do anything exceptionally. The rating makes it feel watered down with a scope that could have spanned a couple of movies. The film needed a couple less characters and more focus.
It depends.
