Storyline

Two childhood friends face their past relationships, including their own, alongside a new friend in the 1980’s in New York City. Their friendship will eventually become a love triangle.

Opinion

Maybe it’s because I only watched the film for Colin Farrell, and he unfortunately is one of the weak parts of the film, but "A Home at the End of the World" is a mediocre drama that features an interesting story somehow made quite unengaging.

Based on Michael Cunningham’s novel of the same name, the film tells a difficult and complicated story, especially considering the years the film is set in, in a quite good way. It is the life of a homosexual young man. But at the same time the film also tells the story of a young man with a lot of dreams that despite everything that life has given to him, he still wants to live, smile and love.

Even though this is not a film about homosexuality or AIDS - it is about finding a place where the world makes sense again, a home, in other words – the potential of three non-stereotypical characters gets lost in an unconvincing love triangle.

The performances aren’t either the film’s strong suit. While he gives a quite good performance as Bobby, the main character, Colin Farrell is never convincing as the young, cute, innocent character he is portraying. It really doesn’t matter how hard he tries, he just doesn’t fit the character. Dallas Roberts, Robin Wright and Sissy Spacek all are okay, but their performances don’t improve the film a lot.
