Plot
In this Finnish language series, detective Inspector Kari Sorjonen is one of the most respected officers at the National Bureau of Investigation in Finland. When his wife barely survives brain cancer, Sorjonen decides to take his family to an idyllic small town near the border of Russia, to live a quiet peaceful life. Of course, peace is the last thing he gets.

Verdict
Why is it that whenever a cop moves and takes a job in a peaceful village, violence breaks out like the plague?
Sorjonen is almost too good, and I'm curious to see how that unfolds. He irritates his colleagues by being aloof, though they understand he is a genius.
The first two episodes kept me interested, but it's always the conclusion that can break a mystery show. This has a lot of players that could meet in a confrontation at the end. Sorjonen is bound to get himself in trouble with the mayor that is wanting to bring a casino to town. I'm willing to bet corners have been cut.
It's been established that Sojornen is smart, will the show use that to its advantage in the conclusion or make him temporarily dumb? The show is good enough that I would continue if I get the time.
It depends.

Review
This seems similar to the string of dark murder mystery's Netflix has distributed, Case, Marcella, and Paranoid. Netflix likes these types of shows, that or they're just popular to make.

The first scene in Bordertown is of a child that has her eyes and mouth sewn shut. The scene also showcases how smart Sojornen is. He takes a few leaps from a crayon picture of a blonde to the girl must be adopted and the biological mother did it and is in the attic hiding. His colleagues are surprised, and I find it just a bit hard to believe.

After beating cancer Sojornen decides to move to the country for her. His wife and daughter urge him to take it easy, but we know that won't happen. The day he comes to town he stumbles into a murder which will probably end up being a conspiracy.
While he's smart, he's also offputting. He leaves the scene stating it isn't a crime scene and he's going home. The girl was found at the location, not killed there he states.

The case, at least as it's been revealed in the first two episodes involves the mayor wanting to bring a casino to town. Why is it always a casino? There's a group of men that kidnap girls for some fetish website, that I'm sure at some point will link back to the mayor.

The mayor wants his staff to look into Sojornen, and despite what she said, Sojornen's wife has a link to the mayor.

Looking at the episode synopsis, it seems his first case may get wrapped up before he leaps into the big conspiracy. That would be a nice change of pace from the episodic mystery series Netflix has released lately.
