Guillermo del Toro As Good As Gold For Director of The First Hobbit Movie

Well I have heard it from a number of sources now and while it is not officially signed you can count on it happening. Here is what we know:

Guillermo del Toro will direct the first Hobbit movie. Nothing solid on the second movie however - this still could be under Peter Jackson's directorship. Guillermo himself told EW that it is very close yesterday and that there is a possibility of moving forward this summer. Furthermore, Sir Ian McKellen has said on his personal blog that del Toro is the director. Hmmm, that sounds like done dinner to me. I have to repeat myself here though - no word on the second Hobbit movie, only assumptions that it will be del Toro.

Still no official word on shooting the films in 3D but we remain steadfast on that claim.

It also sounds like the New Line abolishment has not really slowed things down all that much. Now that is good news! With a little good luck this 5 year project could be off the ground by this summer. Dragons do fly right?
