Avatar Day Tickets Available Monday at Noon PST

Michael here. On Monday, August 17, at noon PST, the floodgates will be opened and, if you are lucky, you will be able to snag up to two free tickets tickets on AvatarMovie.com for the extended (16 minute) Avatar Day footage.

There will be two screenings, at 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm.

The LA Times reports that the footage will contain an introduction from James Cameron, and will include scenes not shown at Comic-Con.

It will play on over 100 Digital Imax 3D screens, which includes over 30 such screens overseas.

IMAX Filmed Entertainment president Greg Foster:

“I think that there’s not enough of an understanding of what show business means," Greg Foster, president of Imax Filmed Entertainment said of the sneak preview. "You can’t have business without showmanship. What Fox and ['Avatar' producer] Lightstorm Entertainment and Imax are doing is the personification of the correlation between those two words -- 'show' and 'business.' "

The obvious burning question now is whether the 16 minutes of scenes will also be shown on non-IMAX 3D screens, as the original press release indicated. Now it seems as though Fox may be showing the footage ONLY on IMAX screens.

Of course, my hope is that they get it into as many 3D screens as possible - IMAX or otherwise - as there are many people without IMAX screens in their area. And the more people that experience the sheer wonder of the dreamlike journey to another world that is Avatar, the better.

We will try to get confirmation ASAP.
