20th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards Winners

The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) announced the winners of the 20th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards and there were no surprises as Boyhood got the top award, best director and two acting categories plus Birdman got the most awards (7) and The Grand Budapest Hotel got 3.

Did not watch awards show so I missed Jessica Chastain acceptance speech and a few events that probably would have enjoyed live, but will be watching them later as"everything" is in youtube already. According to news, acceptance speeches from several honorees went political, making statements about the "color" of the Oscar nominations. Know will talk more about this issue when write about Oscar nominations, but can't help to notice how race is "used" by media, as there was a photo composite with some of the Oscar nominees with legend that said "all white, except one". I didn't see non-whites in photo, so had to read the article. A big surprise when found that the only non-white was Alejandro González Iñárritu!!! If he is not white, then what is he? Mexican? Racism is bad, no matter the "color" or who/whom/what promotes it. Check article here.

Well, going back to CCMA's have to admit that I enjoy Michael Strahan style and humor, so know that he must be a good host. As a matter of fact just watched his opening -plus some other show videos- and he was alright.  Definitively will miss Jessica Chastain at Oscars show but last night she looked gorgeous and her acceptance speech has become today's news -a speech that I consider extremely well-put together going beyond color.

From previous years we already know the (huge) distance between Academy members and critics but some winners here show that the distance could be wider this year as, for example, check Best Foreign Film, Best Documentary Feature and Best Adapted Screenplay categories where winners didn't get an Oscar nomination.

The Broadcast Film Critics Association is the largest film critics organization in the United States and Canada, representing more than 270 television, radio and online critics. Each year BFCA honors the finest achievement in filmmaking with their Critics' Choice Movie Awards and today they announced their nominees. The winners will be revealed at the awards ceremony, which will broadcast live on A&E from the Hollywood Palladium on January 15th at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT, the day the Academy Award nominations are announced. This is the first year that the BFCA will partner with A&E to broadcast the show.

Legendary Super Bowl Champion Michael Strahan will serve as the show’s host. Strahan is the co-host of the popular morning talk show “LIVE with Kelly and Michael,” and an Emmy-nominated “Fox NFL Sunday” analyst. He also serves as special co-host for ABC’s top-rated morning program, “Good Morning America.”

As announced previously, Kevin Costner, Ron Howard and Jessica Chastain will each receive special honors at the ceremony. Costner will be honored with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ celebrating more than three decades of incredible work in film. The LOUIS XIII Critics’ Choice Genius Award, established to honor an icon who has demonstrated unprecedented excellence in the cinematic arts, will be presented to multiple award-winning director, producer and actor Ron Howard. Chastain will receive the inaugural ‘Critics’ Choice MVP Award,’ which recognizes an extraordinary actor for their work in several standout movies throughout a single year. She is being saluted for starring in the films Interstellar, Miss Julie, A Most Violent Year (which also earned her a nomination this year), and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.

Birdman leads this year with thirteen (13) nominations followed by Boyhood with eight (8), Interstellar with seven plus Gone Girl and The Imitation Game with six (6) each.
