In this Japanese language series, Rilakkuma is a toy bear that spends its days lounging around the apartment. Rilakkuma loves pancakes, rice omelets, custard pudding, and "dango" rice dumplings. Its friends are Kaoru's pet bird Kiiroitori and a small white cub named Korilakkuma.
Based on Rilakkuma, an extremely popular Japanese toy-bear character similar to Hello Kitty, the stop motion animated episodes will be eleven minutes in length. Launched in 2003 by Japanese company San-X, which specializes in characters known as a "kawaii", meaning a cutesy cartoon-type figure, Rilakkuma draws large following, mostly among adult women. The Rilakkuma market is estimated to be worth two trillion dollars and is second only to Hello Kitty in the kawaii world.
