Verdict
I liked this season more than the first. It was more focused while also developing a backstory for Ash. He's still the a fun character that chews the scenery, but the added depth is a nice touch. This took season 1 and made it better. It's a lot of fun and self aware.
Watch it.

Review
This starts with Ash in Florida enjoying the easy life, but that doesn't last Ash, Pablo, and Kelly end up at Ash's hometown. We see a completely new side of Ash. Ash's confidant blowhard attitude has to stem in part from the town's suspicions that he murdered his friends. He's compensating for those feelings.  Ash is still the hero, but we get insight into why he's a hero. He also wants to impress his dad who gives him a hard time.

The group is trying to find Ruby and banish this season's villain, Baal, back to hell. This is gory, gruesome, and campy. It's great. The morgue scene in episode two with Ash is a bit much, and there's even a Christine inspired killer car. Ash redeems himself to the town by killing Cheryl to prove he didn't murder her in 1982. She's a deadite, so it's all groovy.

This season is everything the initial season was and more. Banishing the demon is the big story line and it gives this season a lot of focus.
