D.L. Hughley: Contrarian (September 18)

Netflix Comedy Special

American actor, political commentator, radio host, author, and stand-up comedian, Hughley brings his rapid fire comedy to Netflix. Best known as the original host of BET's ComicView, the eponymous character on the sitcom The Hughleys, and a performerd in The Original Kings of Comedy, he has also hosted CNN's D. L. Hughley Breaks the News, been a correspondent for The Jay Leno Show, and made it to 9th place on Dancing with the Stars.

Based on a Norwegian series by the same name, directed by Cary Fukunaga of True Detective, and starring Jonah Hill & Emma Stone, this dark comedy is about a man that lives in a fantasy while being locked in a mental institution.

Violet Jones has a flawless life, with a great job, a handsome boyfriend who's a doctor, and a meticulously maintained hairstyle. After an accident at the hair salon each of these unravel, and Violet realizes her life was a facade. She wasn't living the life she really wanted. With a little help from a soulful barber and his young daughter Violet finds the courage to discard the unnecessary, starting with her perfectly straightened hair.

Jones is one of only 18 people who has won all four annual American entertainment awards (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony). He is the most Grammy-nominated artist of all time, with a total of 79 nominations, and has won 27 times (as the second all-time highest number in history).

The Good Cop Season 1 (September 21)

From the creator of Monk, Tony Danza is back on television, playing disgraced former NYPD officer Tony Sr. who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, an earnest, obsessively honest NYPD detective Tony Jr., played by singer-songwriter Josh Groban, who makes a point of always following the rules. This odd couple becomes unofficial partners as Tony Sr. offers his overly-cautious son blunt, street-wise advice on everything from handling suspects to handling women.
