25th Annual Critics' Choice Awards Nominations

Yesterday the Critics Choice Association (CCA) announced the nominees for current edition of their annual awards.  The winners will be revealed at the Awards Gala, hosted by Taye Diggs, and broadcast live on The CW Television Network on Sunday, January 12 from 7:00pm ET.

To remind us, the Critics Choice Association is the largest critics organization in the United States and Canada representing more than 400 television, radio and online critics.  It was organized this year with the formal merger of the Broadcast Film Critics Association and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association, recognizing the blurring of the distinctions between film, television and streaming content.

Netflix leads with 61 nominations across their series and films followed by HBO with 33, Amazon with 14 and NBC with 12.  This data gives us an idea of what some critics believe is excellence in the different distribution mediums (streaming, cable and open TV) and how much could be concentrated in one player with worldwide presence -not only in the USA.

The Irishman leads the pack with 14 nominations followed by Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood with 12, Little Women with 9, 1917 and Marriage Story with 8, and with 7 each Joker, Parasite and Jojo Rabbit.

There are too-many nominees in several categories which undoubtedly assures awards show will be full of stars, celebrities and industry people.  Well, that's entertainment, isn't?

To check film and TV nominees at official site go here.  Let me just comment that last year there were a very large group of TV series (that feel/look like very-long movies) and some are being honored by this group of critics; series like The Crown and Sucession.  Can't say the same for movies made for TV as all honored have average quality and well, look/feel like old TV shows (lol).
