Usually I'm restrained in my early comments about X-men movies as I've been let down, but also thrilled with past releases. This time though with X-MEN: APOCALYSE - wow. Director Bryan Singer has seemingly stepped up his game here and improved upon what was already a great movie in DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.
Note the character development especially in the trailer. I love the correlations they assert and while I'm growing very tired of superhero movies that present the end of the world, this looks like a very entertaining shot at it.
APOCALYSE stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Olivia Munn, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Lucas Till, Josh Helman, Lana Condor and Ben Hardy.
Here's the synopsis for the movie:
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is slated for release on May 18, 2016. More when I get it - and I'm really looking forward to see what's next for marketing.

The Usual Suspects (1995)
Cast
Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne, Chazz Palminteri, Kevin Pollak, Pete Postlethwaite, Stephen Baldwin, Benicio del Toro, Peter Greene, Suzy Amis, Clark Gregg, Dan Hedaya, Giancarlo Esposito, Michelle Clunie, Paul BartelPlot
A deadly firefight and a fire aboard a ship docked in the San Pedro Bay leaves two survivors: a Hungarian criminal named Arkos Kovaz (Morgan Hunter) hospitalized from severe burns, and Roger "Verbal" Kint (Kevin Spacey) with cerebral palsy.Separately, FBI agent Baer (Giancarlo Esposito) and Customs agent Kujan (Chazz Palminteri) arrive in San Pedro, lured by reports that the Turkish criminal Keyser Söze was involved with the incident. As Verbal later explains, Söze has a near mythical and vengeful reputation, having killed his own family when they were held hostage by a Hungarian gang to show his resolve, and then killing off all but one of the gang members before disappearing underground, keeping his true identity secret by insulating himself from his agents that may not even know who they are working for.
Opinion
The Usual Suspects is one of the best thrillers of 90's, along with Seven (David Fincher) and The Silence of the Lambs (Jonathan Demme). The script is excellent, the story does keep the viewer in suspense until the last minute. The final twist is simply unforgettable. The outstanding Kevin Spacey overshadows the other actors. The two Academy Awards won, for Best Supporting Actor (Kevin Spacey) and Best Original Script (Christopher McQuarrie), are totally deserved.Quotes

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Shooting In Native 3D!
This is not an overly huge surprise given that JACK THE GIANT SLAYER is in 3D as well, but it's exciting anyway! Bryan Singer has confirmed that X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST will be shot in native 3D.
Says Singer recently: "I'll probably use some of the motion-capture technology for certain things [in Days of Future Past]. And of course the 3D technology. I'll be shooting native stereo on X-Men."
I am also very, VERY curious as to whether Singer will shoot in high frame rate (HFR) as slyly hinted by Ian McKellan.
Singer himself tweeted some time ago: "Just saw #Hobbit. Having some serious frame rate envy. Amazing and involving. Loved it! And @ianmckellen118, my friend, you are brilliant!"
He said that while watching Jackson's THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY in 48 fps and sitting beside James Cameron! Talk about your peer pressure.
So I remain hopeful of a HFR 3D experience for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, but I am very happy with native 3D from Mr. Singer. Well done.
More info when I get it!

New Trailer For Bryan Singer's JACK THE GIANT SLAYER!
Our exposure so far with director Bryan Singer's JACK THE GIANT SLAYER has been rather low key if you ask me. There's been nothing too dark about it. Up until now that is. Check out the latest trailer for JACK and note the differences. I think they should have started out with this tact and worked into an even more darker place - but then again perhaps the movie just doesn't go there.
Regardless the new trailer is the best of the lot. Enjoy!
Here's the storyline for the movie:
Jack the Giant Slayer tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend—and gets the chance to become a legend himself.
JACK THE GIANT SLAYER opens on March 1.
