Exclusive: Joe Dante's THE HOLE Will Indeed Be Screened In 3D...

Yes, Joe Dante's THE HOLE will be theatrically screened in 3D. But here's the bad news, it's only going to be screened in 3D in four theaters in Atlanta, premiering on September 28.

I got in contact with Joe personally and he told me the disappointing news.

So while many of us have waited a long time to see this thing on the big screen in 3D, it looks like that won't happen with this distribution deal.

Alternatives? Fly to Atlanta. Or buy the 3D blu-ray when it becomes available. Not too many I'm afraid. If anything changes with the 3D locations, I'll be sure to let you know.

YES! Joe Dante's THE HOLE Finally Has A Release Date! Theatrical Trailer Too...

At long last, Joe Dante's THE HOLE finally has a release date and I couldn't be happier. The man behind GREMLINS had to wait a little while, but it should all be worth it.

Want early reactions to the movie? Check them out right here. The release date for the movie theatrically is September 28.

THE HOLE was shot in native 3D and stars Bruce Dern, Teri Polo, Chris Massoglia, Haley Bennett and Nathan Gamble.

Here's the movie's storyline:
Susan and her sons Dane and Lucas Thompson move from Brooklyn to Bensonville, in the countryside. Dane is upset with the constant changes of address and the family has lived in many cities. Lucas and Dane befriend their next door neighbor, the gorgeous Julie and the brothers find a bottomless hole in the basement of their house locked with several padlocks. They take the locks off and sooner they are haunted by their darkest fears. Further, they believe that the hole might be a gateway to hell.

Jim here. Have a look at Joe Dante's (GREMLINS) new trailer for THE HOLE 3D. I have been following the development of this project for some time now and it is satisfying to peek at the end result!

I get the same type of comic relief that GREMLINS had from the movie so it is right in Dante's strike zone for sure. Anxious to see the whole thing!

I am a big fan of Joe Dante (Gremlins, Innerspace, The Howling, Piranha) and excited to see him back in his native horror genre with full steam. Stay tuned for more when I get it!

First Look: Joe Dante's "The Hole 3D" Posters!

Jim here. You all know Joe Dante's work (Gremlins, The Howling, Innerspace, Piranha) and I brought you up to speed on his latest project that takes him back to his horror roots, THE HOLE. (Read the storyline if you haven't already). Personally, I think the darkness plays especially well for 3D and the suspense could be off the charts for this one if I know Dante well enough.

Movie starts to shoot in December now, rather than this month in Vancouver, BC with a budget of $15m.

Dante told Screen Daily: "I've made a lot of horror movies but generally don't find much of interest in them because the material doesn't appeal to me," Dante says as he prepares to begin production in Vancouver in December. "This was different: it's essentially a family-oriented story and I found the quality of the writing and characters to be above average."

When he read the script for The Hole, a lightbulb clicked on inside his head. "3D seems to be in the news again due to the peripatetic efforts of Jeffrey Katzenberg, so I thought this might be the time to do a 3D movie."
