Altered Carbon Season 1 premieres February 2, 2018
The series follows Envoy soldier Takeshi Kovacs (Joel Kinnaman), who is brought back to life centuries later to investigate the attempted murder of Laurens Bancroft (James Purefoy), the wealthiest man on Earth. As the investigation progresses, Kovacs comes to learn that his past isn’t nearly as buried as he thought.
Based on the Altered Carbon book series that began in 2002 by Richard K. Morgan, in this cyberpunk world human consciousness can be digitized and downloaded into a "cortical stack" and placed into new bodies, called sleeves. This allows for quick travel across the solar system and the rich to live indefinitely.
Kristin Lehman also stars as Laruens Bancroft's wife.
The book had Kovacs put into a cop’s body as he’s hired to investigate a suicide purported to be a murder. Laurens Bancroft apparently committed suicide, destroying the stack that contains his consciousness, but with a 48 hour back up, he buys a new body and hires Kovacs.
The date announcement video released December 4th, with a teaser video following December 10.
