THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT Will Be In 3D - 8 Character Posters Revealed!

The next DIVERGENT installment entitled THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT, has been confirmed to be in 3D and 8 interactive 3D posters have been released in the past day to publicize the movie. The posters are for the main characters namely: Caleb (Ansel Elgort), Tori (Maggie Q), Uriah (Keiynan Lonsdale), Max (Mekhi Phifer), Peter (Miles Teller), Christina (Zoë Kravitz), Four (Theo James) and Tris (Shailene Woodley).

I enjoyed the first movie - better than THE HUNGER GAMES in many ways. Now that the second movie in the franchise will be 3D, it'll be all that more appealing. This genre begs for 3D and helps suspend disbelief - can't wait to see their end result.

THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. I, FRANKENSTEIN Will Be Released In 3D!!

During an analyst call, Rob Friedman of Lionsgate announced that I, FRANKENSTEIN will be released in 3D.

As you may know, Aaron Eckhart will play Adam Frankenstein and that Stuart Beattie wrote and is directing the movie that's based on a Kevin Grevioux (UNDERWORLD) graphic novel.

Further I have no information that this is a native 3D shoot, so I'd wager that Lionsgate is going the route of a 3D conversion.

Here's the movie's storyline:
I FRANKENSTEIN is a modern-day epic: Frankenstein’s creature, ADAM (Eckhart), has survived to present day due to a genetic quirk in his creation. Making his way to a dark, gothic metropolis, he finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans.

I, FRANKENSTEIN is now slated for a September 13 release.

Sylvester Stallone Wants HUNTER In 3D By 2014!

Sylvester Stallone has owned the movie rights to James Byron Huggins' HUNTER for some time now and at one point was interested in using the material as fodder for RAMBO 5. Now he is thinking of a standalone movie and Lionsgate seems to agree.

The target for release is 2014. Stallone would be writing, directing and starring in the sci-fi action thriller which will apparently stay loyal to the book (from Amazon):

Nathaniel Hunter could track anyone -- or anything -- on earth. Now the military desperately needs him for a mission that his ultrasensitive instincts tell him he should refuse. A beast is loose somewhere north of the Arctic Circle. It has already decimated a secret research facility and annihilated a squad of elite military guards. And the raging creature is headed south toward civilization, ready to wreak bloody devastation.

It's a job that Hunter can't turn down, but he soon discovers that his prey is terror incarnate, a half-human abomination created by a renegade agency through a series of outlawed genetic experiments. It has man's cunning, a predator's savageness, and a prehistoric power that has transcended the ages. And even if Hunter survives its unrelenting hunger for human blood, he'll still have to confront the grim reality that it may have grown immortal.

This sounds like a perfect vehicle for Stallone and I'd be very interested to see this in 3D. The potential of blowing snow enveloping us as an audience while immersed in the movie sounds amazing. Really hoping this gets made. More when I get it.

Yes! Karl Urban's DREDD: "I Am The Law" Clip!

PERFECT! I wanted to see this part of the movie so badly I was afraid I shouldn't spoil it beforehand, but the clip is quite short so I personally don't feel as though I have betrayed anything by doing so.

Fair warning though - this is the trademarked phrase from Judge Dredd, "I am the law" and he is using it in the movie so if you want a pristine viewing experience, stop watching these things!

Continuing on, I am over the top with this movie - everything looks amazing and paying tribute to the original intent of the comic (that I can see thus far anyway). Can't wait!

Must See: New Posters For DREDD And CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: WORLD'S AWAY

Couple of new posters for you from promising and upcoming 3D movies - DREDD and CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: WORLD'S AWAY.

First up is the graffiti style poster for Karl Urban's DREDD. Reminiscent of how Sony tackled some of the viral marketing for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, Lionsgate is now leveraging the maneuver and I think for the most part it works. The symbolism is clearly targeted at Dredd's helmet and the 'X' design where his eyebrows would be underneath.

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: WORLD'S AWAY is a completely different genre movie altogether! While DREDD is a solid 'R' for a rating, WORLD'S AWAY will focus on a family experience. The poster offers a cinematic take on what will surely be sensory overload for the eyes.

The athletes of the Cirque are one of kind. This movie should also be one of a kind, and if you haven't seen the trailer yet, you can click over right here.

Produced by none other than James Cameron, we should be taken on quite a visionary journey to the world of Cirque du Soleil. Have you seen any of their work? If so, you can imagine what this will be like - all shot in native 3D using the equipment and expertise of the Cameron | Pace Group.

Must See: New DREDD Poster "Judgment Is Coming"

Loving the artistry for this poster! I get a flashback to MAD MAX when I see it, especially his body armor. The rooftop angle also reminds me of several super hero properties out there.

WOW. I knew I was going to like this movie, but WOW. Makes you totally forget what happened to Stallone's version of the comic-book. Karl Urban looks great in the role and DREDD 3D looks shockingly violent with a grunge feel. Love the visuals and the use of slo-mo (which is also part of the plot).

Note that this trailer is red band so it's not safe for viewing at work. There are no plot spoilers in this thing, but definite visual spoilers - you WILL get a sense for what this movie will feel like. To me, I recommend watching this thing. Again and again. :-)

MUST WATCH: New Trailer For Karl Urban's DREDD!

The wait is finally over! Here's the first look at a trailer for Lionsgate's DREDD starring Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby.

First of all let me say that Judge Dredd looks like he's all business and ready to represent the comic book hero authentically. Personally I would have chosen a different design for his chest armor, but hey, perhaps there is a reason it looks like a PFD. 

Other than that, I love the look and feel of the trailer. Gritty, some comic book influence in the colors and it seems like there is some great action. Oh and Lena Headey's makeup / special effects looks awesome!

Poster: SAW 3D In Heart-Pounding 3D!!

Lionsgate has released another innovative poster to promote their 'final' iteration of the SAW franchise - SAW 3D. This time the pun is on the movie being in heart pounding 3D! No doubt it is. The aim will be to make you sick to your stomach at times I have no doubt.

I like what Lionsgate is trying to do here with these posters. Would like to see actual representations of these posters from RabbitHoles or a similar company too.



So far we have had 'eye popping' posters, 'mind blowing' posters and now 'heart pounding'. What's next guys? Care to wager? :-)

WATCH: New SAW 3D Trailer!

Well all good things must come to an end and the SAW franchise is no exception ($730m+ over 7 years + 30m DVDs sold). Director James Wan's short video teaser to Lionsgate sold them on the concept and the original movie (2004) was then shot in 17 days for $1m. The film then earned $55m and the rest is history. There was a new SAW movie every year since. Lionsgate has confirmed this will be the last of them all.

I have enjoyed the long run, though the last movie kinda suffered. I am sure that they will be making it up to us with SAW 3D - in fact there will be 11 trap devices this time around which is almost double what their typical movie has. Apparently Lionsgate had to edit, re-edit and resubmit no less than 6 times to the MPAA to get an R rating instead of a NC-17.

SAW will be awarded the "Most Successful Horror Movie Series" by the Guinness Book of World Records at Comic-Con this year. Congratulations guys!

SAW 3D opens nationwide on October 29. The 3D glasses device you are now wearing on your face is about to send uncontrollable adrenaline coursing through your veins... :-)

New Trailer: ALPHA & OMEGA

We are getting a glimpse of the upcoming 3D animation ALPHA & OMEGA from an international trailer from Lionsgate.

My first impression from the scenes is that it reminds me of early Dreamworks Animation efforts - so don't expect Pixar here. I think the story could be compelling enough so I am certainly not panning it altogether, but the design and end result are not up to today's standards in my opinion.

However they do have a superb voice cast in Justin Long, Hayden Panettiere, Christina Ricci, Dennis Hopper, Danny Glover, and Vicki Lewis.

Storyline: What makes for the ultimate road trip? Hitchhiking, truck stops, angry bears, prickly porcupines and a golfing goose with a duck caddy. Just ask Kate and Humphrey, two wolves who are trying to get home after being taken by park rangers and shipped halfway across the country. Humphrey is an Omega wolf, whose days are about quick wit, snappy one-liners and hanging with his motley crew of fun-loving wolves and video-gaming squirrels. Kate is an Alpha: duty, discipline and sleek Lara Croft eye-popping moves fuel her fire. Humphrey’s motto – make ‘em laugh. Kate’s motto – I’m the boss. And they have a thousand miles to go. Back home rival wolf packs are on the march and conflict is brewing. Only Kate and Humphrey can restore the peace. But first, they have to survive each other.

Have A Look: New ALPHA & OMEGA Trailer

Got the new ALPHA AND OMEGA trailer for you from Lionsgate. With Justin Long, Hayden Panettiere, Dennis Hopper, Christina Ricci, Christine Lakin and Danny Glover lending their voices, I give this movie a fairly good chance of making a nice return at the box office.

Look for the release on September 17!




I think the premise is a good one, however it remains to be seen if they can be as successful as other non-Pixar projects like Fox's ICE AGE. Let me know what you think of the trailer if you feel so inclined...

SAW 3D Poster Captured In The Wilds Of Spain!

First thing you will probably notice is that there are no roman numerals on the Spanish version poster for Lionsgate's upcoming SAW VII.

The story picks up of course at the end of SAW VI and it is written again by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. Should be more of the same plot gyrations!

As a deadly battle rages over Jigsaw's brutal legacy, a group of Jigsaw survivors gathers to seek the support of self-help guru and fellow survivor Bobby Dagen, a man whose own dark secrets unleash a new wave of terror.

The SAW movies are traditionally quite dark so it will be interesting to see how director Kevin Greutert deals with that issue. SAW VII opens October 22.

Rumor: Lionsgate's CONAN THE BARBARIAN Reboot Going S3D?!

Jim here. I don't know how good this information is but it comes from IESB who has "received word". Apparently Lionsgate is in the thick of switching CONAN THE BARBARIAN to stereoscopic 3D.

IESB says that multiple "effects shops" have received Lionsgate's requirements and supposedly will be bidding on the work. According to this wording I would say that they will be shooting in 2D and converting in post, but it is not very clear at all.

We will see what happens - I would love to have the CONAN franchise in 3D! A no-brainer if you ask me. Here's hoping. We will be checking with our own sources on this...

Review: "My Bloody Valentine 3D"

In a word - entertaining! If you haven't checked it out yet - or if your local 3D theater has been sold out the past couple of nights - try and try again. And yes, 3D is definitely the way to see this movie.

Right from the start I knew I was witnessing something special and innovative. With the rolling of the Lionsgate corporate intro complete with 3D gears and flying through their keyhole to view their logo - the anticipation was palpable. You could hear the packed in audience gasp at the vividness and immersion of the 3D - and the movie hadn't even started yet! By the way, that 3D logo was "dimensionalized" by In-Three.

I must say that the director Patrick Lussier used light to his advantage extremely well during the movie - from the very dark mine tunnels and miner's helmet lights (hard to pull off as 3D tends to be dim) to the interior and day lit exteriors, he instills a sense of actually being there that is a first for me in a feature film (U2 3D being a concert).

Some very innovative 3D techniques were used for the gory parts of the movie (that earned an R rating from the MPAA) and while I won't go into details as it would ruin it for you - suffice to say that you will definitely be entertained by them. In one particular murder, the audience actually becomes the victim momentarily and that sends your mind reeling in empathy. For more on the technology behind the 3D used here - check this out.

The ending is satisfying. More than not in horrors, things just don't end up right - well you can count on a great ending here with some twists that you may not have imagined.

Worth every dime folks. Get out and enjoy the first 3D movie of 2009, especially with your loved one - just as how they have marketed it. Perfect job, I might add. Marketers, take a bow. Should be some massive box office for all concerned.

I sense a THEME here... don't you? You think there will be the occasional pick axe being thrown at the audience? Not sure... but... I think so. I always thought gas masks were scary from my youth - don't know why really. Just creeps me out. Now if there was a ZOMBIE in a gas mask - I would bolt for the nearest exit.
