Storyline
In Serbia, the retired porn star Miloš (Srđan Todorović) agrees to participate in an art film in order to make a clean break from the business, only to discover that he has been drafted into making a pedophilia, and necrophilia themed snuff film.
Opinion
If Serbian director Srdjan Spasojević's goal was to make an unforgettable film, he succeeded. If his goal was to make art, he miserably failed, as A Serbian Film is a disgusting, disturbing, and sick film that is crueler than cruel, and darker than dark.
Spasojević said that you have to feel the violence to know what it's about, and it's true, partially; but there is a line that must not be crossed that separates a work of art from pure bestiality. And boy if this film crossed that line.
The audience, who must have a strong stomach to watch the whole thing, is tortured with a story of rape, violence against women, pedophilia, necrophilia, and incest. No wonder the Serbian state investigated the film for crime against sexual morals and crime related to the protection of minors.
Srđan Todorović does a fine job as Miloš, as he looks like he really has no idea of what the f**k is happening.
Spasojević probably believes he made a piece of art and he was very brave to show the dark side of humanity; I firmly believe he should see a shrink, a good one.

Storyline
After his mother dies, seventeen year-old J Cody (James Frecheville) has no choice but to contact his maternal grandmother, Janine "Smurf" Cody (Jacki Weaver), who rules her criminal family with a borderline incestuos love over her three sons. Among blood brothers and blood, manipulated trial sand revenge served cold, J will soon lose his innocence.
Opinion
The extremely impressive debut from Australian director David Michôd, Animal Kingdom is a tense, gloomy, innovative and mesmerizing crime family drama.
In this bitter and dramatic film, Michôd tells the gangster life as if it was an animal kingdom, where the strongest, the one that eats the weakest wins, and also makes a criticism to those men - and women - who are neither men nor animals. He shows all this with a cynical eye, with no compassion, and wonderfully manages to convey violence without aestheticizing it.
However, the moral condemnation aforementioned soon stops to make room for a world where no one is really good or bad. In fact, whether criminals or cops there is no difference: they all use others for their own ends. Only detective Leckie makes exception.
Also, don't expect long shooting scenes, or robberies or car chases because there are none in Animal Kingdom, as the action is reduced to a minimum.
The films makes use of the minimalist synthesiser music from Antony Partos to create an air of dread and tension.
The cast is uniformly excellent. In his debut James Frecheville is basically a piece of wood as J (in a good way), he is in a constant catatonic state, seemingly frail and confused, Ben Mendelsohn delivers a convincing performance as terrifying psychopath Pope, Guy Pearce gives a wonderful and intense performance as detective Leckie, and Jacki Weaver gives a strong performance as Smurf, the matriarch of the family with the psychotic smiles.
Cast Jennifer Lawrence, John Hawkes, Kevin Breznahan, Dale Dickey, Lauren Sweetser, Tate Taylor, Garret Dillahunt, Sheryl Lee, Shelley Waggener, William White, Ron Hall, Ashlee Thompson, Cody Shiloh Brown, Isaiah Stone, Casey MacLaren, Ray Vaughan Jr Plot In the highlands of Missouri, seventeen-year-old Ree Dolly (Jennifer Lawrence) looks after her mentally ill mother (Valerie Richards), her twelve-year-old brother Sonny (Isaiah Stone) and her six-year-old sister Ashlee (Ashlee Thompson). Every day Ree makes sure her siblings eat, while teaching them basic survival skills like hunting and cooking.
Her father, Jessup, arrested for manufacturing methamphetamine is out on bail. Sheriff Baskin (Garret Dillahunt) tells Ree that if her father doesn't show up for his court date, they will lose the house because it was put up as part of his bond.
Ree, driven from despair of being unable to take care of her family, will face the mistrust and violence of the entire community, up to a dramatic - but only partially revealed - truth.
Opinion The climate is cold and the atmosphere recalls a post-apocalyptic winter. The cold and detached cinematography conveys perfectly the sense of unease. The colors' choice is excellent, recalling, once again, the feelings convey by the film using drab colors, deprived of their light.
The direction of Debra Granik is terrific; the cast is outstanding, where stands the talented Jennifer Lawrence, receiving the Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, won by Natalie Portman.

Lionsgate has released another innovative poster to promote their 'final' iteration of the SAW franchise - SAW 3D. This time the pun is on the movie being in heart pounding 3D! No doubt it is. The aim will be to make you sick to your stomach at times I have no doubt.
I like what Lionsgate is trying to do here with these posters. Would like to see actual representations of these posters from RabbitHoles or a similar company too.
So far we have had 'eye popping' posters, 'mind blowing' posters and now 'heart pounding'. What's next guys? Care to wager? :-)

With all the recent hoopla over 3D conversions and the ridiculous stories that 3D is dying, it is so refreshing to hear from the man that really started it all for modern 3D in Hollywood (along with Mr. Katzenberg of course). Have a listen!!
0:40 - Cameron confirms he is producing Guillermo del Toro's AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS. The movie will be shot in native 3D using next generation FUSION 3D cameras from Pace. The project came up only 2 or 3 weeks ago when Cameron asked about if del Toro was still interested in it. As del Toro was clearly excited to do it, Cameron said "let's do it". They took it to Universal with both of them attached to the fast tracked project and now it looks like it will be going in the 2nd quarter of 2011.
2:30 - Cameron talks about 3D conversions. TITANIC's conversion is taking 8 months to a year to complete, not a fast turnaround like CLASH OF THE TITANS. Cameron: "(TITANS) showed a fundamental lack of knowledge about stereo space, in addition to the shoddy work that comes from rushing."Cameron likes TITANS in 2D as do I (I have had the Blu-ray since it was released) from a directorial standpoint and as a fan of Sam Worthington.
5:00 - Cameron on how they are technically converting TITANIC."You just can't cut out edges, you're going to get flat people moving around." He will be using all his knowledge to put things on their right depth planes. They had tests for TITANIC from seven different conversion vendors on the exact same shots and they got back seven different answers as to were they thought things were spatially. "Some of them were not bad guesses and some of them were ridiculous."
6:50 - The whole argument about conversion will go away for high end, first run 3D. Two years from now when there are thousands of 3D cameras out their shooting live feeds to 3D broadcast networks, how can a producer go to a studio and say: "I can't shoot 3D. It's too difficult. There are too many problems. It costs too much. It adds 6 months to post-production. They won't be able to say any of that stuff. That stuff is all garbage."
9:05 - Cameron on talking with Steven Spielberg about converting his classic movies to 3D. "Make sure you are there for (the conversions), then it can be great."
11:20 - Cameron talks about AVATAR 2's current status. He has an overall story arc for 2 and 3, but has some modifications for that after spending some time during the last few months with native tribes in the Amazon basin. Script will be a ways out yet for AVATAR 2.
12:04 - He is focusing his writing right now on the AVATAR novel (corresponds to the first film) and that will take him the next couple of months to bang out. Not sure when it will be coming out, perhaps the end of the year or the first quarter of 2011.
12:45 - The AVATAR re-release will have 9 extra minutes, not 8 and it will all be CG. No extra footage of live action characters drinking coffee. Rainforest; some at night; a hunt sequence - a lot of flying; high impact action; an emotional scene toward the end has been added back; "the best CG in the film has been added as far as facial performance"; A Na'vi counterattack after the bulldozer attack; more of Grace at the school; adding the Stingbat and Sturmbeast creatures; additional Quaritch final AMP Suit battle shots; more of the glade love scene. It is all on par with the best of the rest of the film. They had lots of footage to choose from and they put back the absolute best scenes and shots they could.
15:45 - Cameron does not have the release timing of the 3D Blu-ray as they want to have a nice distribution of 3DTVs in homes. He has seen the 3D master run on consumer 3DTVs from Panasonic and Samsung and "It looks amazing. It looks really spectacular."

Check this new trailer for JACKASS 3D from Paramount! It's fully complete with a flying port-a-potty, a big slap to the face and what I think is a touch of genius, the ol' flying man being pummeled by paintballing bird hunters.
Watch it once, I guarantee you will watch it a second time! Well probably will watch it a second time :-) Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O and the boys are here to please...
This third iteration of the JACKASS franchise is in 3D and opens wide on October 15. Should be a blast!!
The new and final STEP UP 3D trailer is out and it packs a lot more wallop than the previous. Timing in at 3 minutes, you get more of a picture of the big dance contest that they are prepping for as well as the romance developing between the two leads.
We also get a first look at a couple of twins who look like they provide some comedic relief to the film. Looks passable too.
With STEP UP 3D set to spin into theaters tomorrow, this trailer takes it up a notch.
Keep in mind that this movie was entirely shot in native 3D. They were careful to include that nugget of info in the trailer too.
Storyline: A tight-knit group of New York City street dancers, including Luke (Malambri) and Natalie (Vinson), team up with NYU freshman Moose (Sevani), and find themselves pitted against the world's best hip hop dancers in a high-stakes showdown that will change their lives forever.
I will be checking this out ASAP. I am very curious about how this thing looks and delivers. My dancing days are pretty much over I would say, but I might learn a thing or two... Nah!
Here's a new trailer for NARNIA: THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER and it is from the recently released DIARY OF A WIMPY KID DVD.
I like this trailer more than the first(although the water flowing painting was very cool in the original). There is much more of Lucy in this second one and maybe that is the key to driving home more success with the release. There are also more glimpses of what we now know to be the Book Of Incantations.
I WANT to be so much more interested in these movies. I really do. I hope they deliver the goods here; the way Peter Jackson delivered Middle-earth - but I know that isn't going to happen will it? One can dream though I guess.
Got the new SAW 3D trailer for you - keep in mind it does give away some of the traps they have in store for you, but hey - that's modern marketing isn't it?
These traps certainly look as though they have been created with 3D in mind - you will see that when you view the trailer.

Perhaps this 3D iteration of the SAW franchise will reinvigorate the series? :-) More SAW? What about a spin off series that sets traps only with blunt instruments - something like MALLET? Seriously though, if SAW 3D makes a ton of money which I think it will, we may not have seen the end of Jigsaw.

This movie is going to be a MONSTER. Trust me on this - it's going to have a nice long run. More when I get it!!
As far as I am concerned, Laser TV is the future of 3D home entertainment - and the price will get lower as time goes by. The Mitsubishi 75-LT1 is being released on August 21 in Japan for the rather hefty price tag of $8500.
So what makes it so great? Other than it's impressive size which is 75 inches and resolution (1920x1080), it utilizes the company's Laser TV technology. The lasers DOUBLE the color range of what is found on a normal HDTV and at the same time using about a quarter of what current TVs use in power consumption. LCDs and Plasmas can only reproduce about 40% of the colors a human eye can see, while a Laser TV can reproduce 90%. Further, that color intensity lasts for the life of the TV while others technologies don't. Laser TVs are typically about half the weight of LCDs and Plasmas too.
Two pairs of active shutter 3D glasses are included in the price.
The 75-LT1 also comes with a built-in BS.110/CS digital TV Tuner, 5x HDMI inputs and 1x HDMI output, 1x D-Sub port, built-in 2x 10Watts speakers and 3x S-Video ports.

Time to get caught up with all the new 3D movie trailers! Here is the latest MEGAMIND trailer from Dreamworks Animation (DWA) and we are finally seeing the moment where Megamind kills off his nemisis and the resulting repercussions. Should make for some funny moments.
I believe DWA is going for more 3D in your face action with this outing and who can blame them at all on that? It is a comedy animation after all. Horror should be doing the same thing. Anything over the top like SAW 3D should be quite the experience. Just don't pop things out at people in dramas or even sci-fi / fantasy.
But I digress - here is the new MEGAMIND trailer:

Release: November 5, 2010 Once we get past the repeat footage from the first trailer, it gets rather interesting. I doubt it will do HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON numbers, but we'll see.
Sony is raising the 3D bar once again! As you know, the Playstation 3 has 3D support for gaming through a firmware update that has already been made. That update did NOT have support for 3D movies on its blu-ray player however.
That is set to change in September. Sony will be releasing the next 3D update for Playstations and it will include support for playing 3D movies. Word is that 3D photo support is coming in a future release too. Sony is activating 3D across their product line and the new Cybershot DSC-TX9 will be able to grab those stereoscopic 3D photos for you.
Here is what Mick Hocking, Sony's worldwide 3D studio boss had to say: "If you have a PlayStation 3 and you buy a 3DTV, you simply connect via your HDMI cable and your PlayStation 3 will automatically recognise that you've got a 3D display attached. It knows the size of the screen as well, which is very important for actually rendering 3D correctly and giving you the right sense of depth. And in our games you'll see the menu to play the game in 3D automatically. You don't have to press any buttons or go through any menus - it's all completely automatic and seamless, which is jolly good.We've launched four titles in June to support the 3D ready PS3 - and these are also bundled with our 3D Bravia TVs for free. If you've already purchased them [in 2D] from our PSN store, they're also free to download - or you can go along and buy them if you don't have them yet. There's Wipeout, Motorstorm, Super Stardust and PAIN - which involves throwing a character into scenery and hurting them as much as possible. All these are full games except for Motorstorm, which is a demo.In September this year, we're launching another Firmware upgrade - and this one is going to upgrade the PS3 to support Blu-ray movies in 3D. Again, you won't have to do anything - just connect your PS3. For the film market that's a very significant event.Then later in the year - we're not going to date it yet - the PS3 is going to support 3D photos. Of course the popularity of 3D isn't just going to come from movies and games. Finally some details on the long anticipated re-release of the biggest movie of all time! AVATAR will be launched for a second time on August 27 with an extra 8 minutes of new footage.

It is going to be so cool to see good ol' Wile E. Coyote mess up in 3D. I grew up on Looney Tunes so it is about time we are seeing this happen!
The good folks at Disney are giving TV audiences a first look at their upcoming 3D animation TANGLED on Sunday night hosted by, you guessed it, the Disney Channel.
Disney already has 15 seconds of the movie exposed during a commercial to market the event which has made its way to this very post!

Seeing more mature actors helps for me. The franchise is coming into its own right now - and the acting has definitely developed for those core young actors. Of course Ralph Fiennes can't hurt can it? Certainly not - he is one of my favorites.
