6th Annual Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards Winners

Last Saturday the guild had their awards ceremony where announced winners in 23 categories of film, television, commercials and live theater.

Believe Vice double win makes film a contender for top award at Oscars; but, Borders definitively has a more interesting and visual outstanding makeup and hair styling.   There are only three Oscar nominees in this category so IF Vice does not win, then has to be Border or Mary Queen of Scots. (lol)

Yesterday the Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylist Guild (MUAHS, IATSE Local 706) announced their nominations for outstanding achievements in motion pictures, television, commercials and live theater during 2018. Winners will be honored at the annual MUAHS Guild Awards ceremony on February 16 at The Novo by Microsoft at Los Angeles.

The nominations announcement was made by MUAHS Awards Chair Sue Cabral-Ebert.

As previously announced Melissa McCarthy will be honored with the Distinguished Artisan Award.  Susan Cabral-Ebert and Robert Louis Stevenson will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards.


Only seven (7) films advanced in the Makeup and Hairstyling category for the Oscars, and only five (5) got a guild nomination in any motion picture category. The two films with Oscar shortlist and NO MUAHS nomination are Border and Suspiria, both films have in common being foreign productions.  The five with Oscar shortlist and MUAHS nominations are Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody, Mary Queen of Scots, Stan & Ollie and Vice.

Then most interesting, A Star is Born is not shortlisted so IF wins guild award(s) definitively will not translate into Oscar win and the same applies to all contemporary nominees.  I'm more impressed by the makeup work in Border than in any other shortlisted or nominated; perhaps, others with my approval are makeup in Vice and Stan & Ollie. So, until the Oscar five (or less this year?) are named, I'm clueless about possible Oscar winners.
