Opinion

I must admit I wasn't really impressed about this film when it came out in 2007, and that's the reason I didn't bother watching it back then. But since DreamWorks made it, I eventually decided to give this a try, and the studio should really be embarrassed for creating a film like this one.

In fact, "Bee Movie" is a flat, silly animated flick with mediocre graphics that sends mixed messages and doesn't know what it wants to be. Also it can be quite upsetting for kids.

The first problem, the major one, is plot-related. Maybe the writers couldn't decide what kind of story to write, but the thing is that there are so many storylines going on it's almost hard to keep track of all of them. And the whole plot is just too weird.

It starts with a bee graduating and freaking out when he realises that is going to have to do the same job for his entire life. Then the film changes direction, and states that humans should not take honey because bees work too hard to produce it, mistreating Winnie the Pooh and a granny in the process. But then it shows nature dying because of what happens at some point in the film, and basically says that humans should take honey from bees. And don't even let me started on the romance between the bee and a human.

Then there is the animation. Honestly from a studio such as DreamWorks I was expecting a little better than this. In a few words, the film really looks cheap, visually speaking. The flight scenes are well done though.

And now the rest. The voices aren't that bad, even though not a single actor was able to bring some comedy into this film. And the score is quite lovely, but sometimes it didn't fit at all.
