The Weekly Movie Watch Volume 30

This week I watched Gone Girl, Boyhood, Norma Rae.

I watch movies every week and then write down my thoughts. Read my previous reviews!
My rating is simple, Watch It, It Depends, Skip it.

Gone Girl Movie
Gone Girl - No one is a media darling forever.
Gone Girl (2014)
Watch Gone Girl
Written by: Gillian Flynn (screenplay), Gillian Flynn (novel)
Directed by: David Fincher
Starring: Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Carrie Coon
Rated: R

Plot:
Nick Dunn comes home to find his wife missing. Becoming a suspect during the investigation, he just wants to find his wife.

Review:
A well crafted and well executed film. The directing is excellent, as is the casting. The story and pacing really shine. It's a great commentary on media, public opinion, and even marriage. What happens when someone is thrown into the spotlight? Just as public opinion can sway, so does your opinion of the characters. The movie keeps you guessing, even when you think you've got it figured out. To say more would give it away.
Watch it.

Boyhood movie
Boyhood - Life passing before your eyes.
Boyhood (2014)
Watch Boyhood
Written by: Richard Linklater
Directed by: Richard Linklater
Starring: Ellar Coltrane, Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette
Rated: R

Plot:
Over the course of twelve years, Mason grows up. The movie was filmed over twelve years to accurately capture the ages of the actors.

Review:
The scope and scale of this movie is mesmerizing in of itself, twelve years in the making. But more than that the moments it captures, it depicts boyhood, the good and the bad. The problem with movies that capture the passage of time is that actors look too old or too young and it's never authentic. This is authentic, touching, and real. It captures the ups and downs, and it's amazing to watch it unfold. There has never been a movie that has captured the passage of time like this, weaving pop culture perfectly. It's a landmark production. Just like life, this movie is over too quickly. From the first shot to the last, I can't imagine changing a single thing.
Watch it. Watch it right now.

Norma Rae movie
Norma Rae - What's best isn't always what's easy.
Norma Rae (1979)
Watch Norma Rae
Written by: Irving Ravetch and Harriet Frank Jr. (screenplay)
Directed by: Martin Ritt
Starring: Sally Field, Beau Bridges
Rated: PG

Plot:
A single mother textile worker tries to convince coworkers to join the union.

Review:
It's almost a history movie. A lot of towns lived and died on the textile industry. It's well acted with good character development, much better than the title and synopsis would suggest.
It depends.
